My favorite parts of the book are the flash backs to the past. I love how it's a glimpse into a dream both characters have.
The book does leave on a cliffhanger, which I know isn't for everyone. But, there are a lot of unanswered questions.
I'm interested to know how it plays out and will she grow more as a character.

O my word, this book makes you feel the emotions the FMC is going through.
The level of care Icarus portrays towards Avalyn comes across as dominant, demanding, yet sincere.
This was definitely a slow burn, but the fire was worth it!
My mind is still spinning with this book.
There is angst, there is danger, mystery and of course possession.

This was a great debut! I will say I was hesitant bc cliffhangers stress me out sometimes. But…. It was worth it in the end for me. I (personally) expected it to be a bit more spicy based on the TWs though. Overall excited to see how book 2 picks up after the ending of this one!
I didn't know what to expect diving into this read.. this is book one in the Promises and Vows Duet. A book with a LIST of triggers and tropes. This book off the bat has you needing all of your attention to keep track of everything.
This book reminds me of Haunting Adeline but with the mafia trope. But these characters are no Zade Meadows or Adeline Riley. Icarus & Avalyn balance each other perfectly and it’s hard to say that about certain characters when they’re mostly one or the other.
I feel this book focuses more on their backstories and relationship more than the present day events unfolding around them and honestly I’m ok with that! I loved seeing each past event to make them who they are now so going forward into book 2, we understand them better and can focus on the events unfolding at the end of this book…. Which is one of the MEANEST cliffhangers I’ve ever seen!

Icarus is a man with a broken past, and heart, he is the a devil with a pretty mouth and just as hot as the hell he comes from.
Avalyn has scars from her past that are all to deep. She always seems to find her self in the wrong place at the wrong time, danger is attracted to her.
I enjoyed the past tidbits that where scattered throughout the book showing that their stories were always meant to be entwined

I have an unhealthy obsession with mafia romances. So when I saw that Onyx was going to write a mafia duet, I RAN to read this and can confidently say I BINGED the crap out of it in ONE day. Avalyn and Icarus had some of the best chemistry I've seen in a mafia romance, but the plot twists through the book had my mind spinning. It's very easy to get lost with the storyline, so definitely take your time to really understand where Onyx is going with the storyline in general.
I will say Onyx did an incredible job with leaving you on the edge of your seat and wanting to see how this duet ends. It does end on an INSANE cliffhanger so keep that in mind and there are some triggering topics in here so do your due diligence before diving into this book. But for the first book in the duet series, she KILLED it! I CAN NOT WAIT FOR BOOK 2!

(Also in a mafia as a leader but that's besides the point ..jk) the part that SURPRISED ME was with his pet sphinx.. not a cat but a snake 💀 I would be OUT SEE YA. This book ends on a MAJOR cliffhanger. It is kind of slow in the middle but once you're past the heat of the boss and main character... it'll get very interesting..
