Gillian Flynn has done it again!

This short story started off wildly nuts! It had a lot of layers to it and if you want to just want something quick and weird pick this up !

I'm beginning to think Gillian Flynn is a high function sociopath, and is using her intelligence to write books that I undoubtedly will fucking love, and think about until the end of time.

The MC is a thirty-year old lifelong con-artist who now occupies her days giving hand-jobs (oh yeah, Flynn jumps right into this to make you blush and grab your attention) and pretending to be a psychic. When i say hand-jobs, the author explains she does this like a full time job, 6 days a week, with return customers.

One day, a woman shows up for a reading, and after returning for an additional appointment, she invites the MC to her old Victorian home, to help her rid of any evil spirits she claims is causing her step-son to act psychotically. I'm going to stop right here, but let me say that you will change your mind of it's conclusion at least 3 times before the end of the story.

The best short story I've ever read - this should be made into a short film so that non-readers can see her work.

Very interesting. Short and sweet, leaves much to the imagination... I am still a bit speechless and have not officially decided on how to rate this one. For 62 pages it was great! Definitely belongs in a book of short ghost stories, but it is definitely... odd????? Different????? Intriguing????? I am truly unsure. It is short enough that I recommend giving it a shot. Less than an hour to read and not what I expected.

2.5-3 stars
this was fine ig. gillian flynn is a great writer but this was just kind of shallow overall and never really piqued my interest. but good for helping me catch up on my reading goal

So this is Gillian Flynn's version of a ghost story/ effed up psychological thriller but written as a short story? I liked it. It was pretty short, but there was a lot of twists and turns packed in those 66 pages. As usual, it left you wondering what would come of the characters.

Short, creepy story. The characters were interesting and the setting almost took on its own personality.

Spooky, with good twists and a fun ride.

This book was annoying. First of all, publishing a really short story in hardcover is a weird idea but I got this book on Book Outlet so I don't feel like a total schmuck.
Anyways, I thought this book was indulgent and maybe even slapped together. It would have been better in an anthology of other stories because it could have hidden amongst better stories. It's that forgettable.
I thought the beginning of this story was completely unnecessary. The whole set up of the protagonist's day job, was purely for shock value and not even Gillian Flynn style shock value, just plain old, whatever--seriously?! It had nothing to do with the plot. Let's talk about the plot, shall we? Maybe Flynn could have stuck with one twist? Because several twists at the end with an ambiguous ending just left me rolling my eyes. Lame. This book was lame.
