I really enjoyed Jaycee's first book, A Stolen Life, in which she discussed her abduction and captivity by two psychopaths. I was excited to read how and what she has been doing since her release. I'm so happy that she and her children seem to have adjusted extremely well to their new life and she has dedicated her life's work to helping other families through transitional periods. However, I found this book to be just plain boring.

It's always hard to rate a book that's based on someone's misfortune. This book, however, was one filled with hope and positivity. It's the authors second book and describes the little things she has discovered since her recovery. My biggest gripe was that it seemed very random, with topics ranging from here to there and everywhere, with no particular order. And in some cases, just random stories, with no particular purpose.

This book was a challenge to finish. It was a mixture of the writing and the content that gave me the struggle. I almost feel bad rating this book so low, especially considering what Jaycee Dugard had to endure to finally get to the place where she can write a book about her "firsts" since obtaining freedom. She writes extensively about her mundane firsts (granted things we may take for granted) but it's just too much of the same. She writes little to nothing about her daughters, and while I respect her right to privacy on that matter, her perspective and insight on them and how they are adapting to assimilation would've been nice. The later half of the book also has Jaycee recounting her numerous international travels which harken back to the repeated mundaneness. I don't recommend this book.

I actually enjoyed this book a lot more than the first book "Stolen Life". I enjoyed seeing her progress to where she is today, the friends and circle she has made for herself. I can also really relate to her and her love for animals.

Good for her! I appreciate Jaycee telling us about her many first. I enjoyed her perspective.

I really wanted to enjoy this book...but I found it was very disjointed. There were certain short stories I really enjoyed...but others meandered around the point the story was trying to make. I feel bad I didn't enjoy this book more...but I really enjoyed her positive outlook...and all the references to animals. I love animals. Definitely a one time read for me, but I'm happy to have read it and get some insight into how people choose to overcome hardships in their lives.

I pretty much agree with everyone else. It seemed that I was reading a young girls diary and it wasn't very engaging to read. It was just chunks of her life instead of really show she has moved on.
