I will never look at chicken scissors the same again.
While the book was far from perfect, it was very nicely done and did manage to squick me a lot. Just what I was looking for! Went in not really knowing what the story was going to be about, so I was pleasantly surprised when the story didn't give away the origin of the infection too soon.
I couldn't put this book down. It was an excellent mix of action, science, and sympathetic characters. I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book.
This is probably 2 1/2 stars. It was good for what it was--a quick, exciting story with bigger than life characters and sci-fi drama. It kept me hooked and I enjoyed the reading. But it is one of those quick, just for fun kind of reads. The language got on my nerves a little--I don't dislike bad language necessarily, but it seemed like there was "too much" in this book. It was over done. I am going to read Sigler's next book.
I actually listened to the Podcast of this book-read by the author--and really enjoyed that. He does a great job of bring the characters to life.

Pulpy narrative, full of ridiculous, meledramatic, cliched dialogue -- BUT it works. Great gooey descriptions of symptoms abound. I just finished "Don't wait, exfoliate!" and I was actually squirming in my seat on the train. Despite the disturbing subject matter, it's light reading -- I'll be finished in a day or so I bet.
Infected is definitely not the book I thought it was going to be. From blurbs and reputation I expected an action-packed alien zombie shoot out extravaganza. But this is a grotesque horror comedy novel about a guy who talks like Jesse Ventura trapped in his apartment slicing chunks of alien parasite tissue off his body in between bizarre joke routines. It’s like some kind of weird body horror vaudeville that just gets progressively more insane before culminating in fiery carnage (and an inexplicable hard turn into fat jokes). There’s a plot where FBI and the CDC are, pretty incompetently, trying to stall a potential pandemic. There’s a very unprofessional CIA agent and some plot points that don’t really go anywhere. And there isn’t really all that much action. It’s weird and juvenile and gross but somehow oddly compelling. I do feel that the author, who read his own book, did a good job producing a sonically varied production with music and sound effects, though.

Well I didn't hate it but wow parts of this book made it hard to kept down lunch...I will forever shutter at "chicken scissors"...
A fun and sometimes funny romp, with some horrific bits. Thankfully not nearly as psychologically taut as the scenario Paul S. mentioned when he recommended this book. Also worth mentioning: Do not read while sitting outside getting bitten by mosquitoes.
