I had typed out this long review trying to justify a three star rating but you know what? No. The only saving grace is the ending and even then the ending made me mad.

And please don’t think I’m just a hater because I loved this series when I was younger but that’s the problem, I was younger and didn’t know the things I know now. I’ve grown, Meyer hasn’t and it shows.

This book was a surprise.
I was a Twilight fan and I was totally necesary to read the book and I have to say the most important thing I PREFER LIFE AND DEATH MORE THAN TWILIGHT.
Why I prefer more life and death? because of the character, in twilight we had a stalker vampire and a stupid human but in this new book we have a strong vampire and a cutie pie human.

Dear Stephenie Meyer: You should made this before THAT'S BETTER

So I'll give to this book a 8'5/10 and 4 and a half stars

5/5 stars
Love Edythe. She's just better than Edward in every way. But I also can't stop imagining Beau as Bella. So for me it's Edythe and Bella (not Edythe and Beau).

3.5 - Rambling thoughts ... I purchased the hardcover version of this originally in 2015 and immediately started reading. I then put it down after about 2 chapters, a DFN-for almost 7 years. Now, it is October 2022, I have this beast of a book, just finished another re-read of Midnight Sun and decided to try again with Life and Death. I alternated between reading and listening to the audiobook. The audiobook worked for me and I enjoyed the audiobook narration far more than my physical reading, which is unusual for me.

The reasons I initially DNF'd Life and Death still apply, I still feel as though it was just a search and replacement of gender, pronoun and names with very little else changed. I didn't get the emotional attachment to the characters, though the audiobook helped. I found the names and spelling of the names caused a disconnect that felt forced and other issues caused the overall story to not flow organically, in my opinion. Additionally, the ending was was definitely jarring.

Life and Death gives a gender-bending take on the story, and if you are giving it a chance, I would recommend the audiobook version. As I wanted the Twilight Saga audiobooks anyway, instead of buying Twilight alone, I purchased the dual edition.

October 2015 - Initial Read attempted/DNF'd after 2 chapters.

I don't know what to think about this book.

When I started this book , I couldn't stop thinking that it was Bella's story not Beau's.
Most of the time the story was exactly the same (that was a bit boring) and at the end when it was finally a totally other story , it felt so ... Unbelievable. But it's still a good story that made you think : What if....? I think that the original Twilight is better.
(I still hope that Stephenie Meyer will publish Midnight sun.)

A little preface to this review:

I just... really like Twilight, okay? I spent the past few years of my life hiding the books on my shelf because it made me cringe thinking of fifth grade me obsessing over Edward and Bella’s love story and then finding out it really wasn’t that great, but here’s the thing, it might not be literary genius, but I like Twilight. It got me into reading YA back when I was trying to find something to latch onto and I’ll always love it for that. This review is 100% biased, because this series has so much nostalgia in it and I really want to reread the entire series again and again regardless of what other people say.

The review:

Alright, so we all know the story of Twilight. Bella wants to get to know Edward, because he’s got something so... interesting about him. Edward wants to stay away because he’s actually a vampire. They get together, have the iconic meadow scene, and Bella is chased by a killer vampire who wants to suck her blood. Well, what if all the genders were switched. Bella=Beau, Edward=Edyth. What happens then?

Well, yeah, it’s mostly the same story. Except that the ending is a little bit different. Does that ruin the entire story? No, because Stephanie could have just literally given us the same story start to finish, but she at least tried to keep some things a little bit different. The ending in Life and Death was a nice surprise and I’m glad she took that route.

Bella is a pretty average/run-of-the-mill main characters who likes to read classic lit. Beau is the same kind of average, who can’t play sports and enjoys Monty Python. It’s a little bit the same, but some of the details are nice and different. It kept me interested and I was able to fly through the last couple hundred pages of the book.

it started out slightly more tolerable, but went downhill quickly. it literally was just a ctrl + f of Twilight.
