Brilliant

This isn’t my first time reading a dark book but it is my first reading one so well written. I loved slowly getting to know the characters with out the book itself being slow. I can’t wait to recommend this to friends and finish reading the series!

Interesting. Very interesting.
I literally have no idea what to say about this book. I'm kind of confused about my own feelings towards it.
Needless to say, I did enjoy it. I think. It was the darkest book I've ever read, and I loved the idea of it. But I just can't decide how I felt about the characters or the plot.
The plot was full of holes and so many unrealistic things. Which, I know it's fiction, but still. I didn't feel like anything was really and truly happening. I didn't feel that there was anything leading up to something bigger. But I still liked it. A lot. I just got sucked in, and I ended up reading the book in one sitting. I liked so many scenes, but there were also scenes I just didn't like. Some thing progressed slowly, while other things zoomed by so fast I didn't even know what happened.
And the characters...I just don't know. Livvie confused the hell out of me. Her personality and actions were all over the place. Sometimes she was tough and such a fighter, while other times she was like a scared little animal. I mean, I could see why. She was being held captive and being beaten. But you could never tell how she was going to act, and sometimes her attitude just went from one thing to the next in a matter of seconds. As a character, I thought her to be under-developed. But I still liked her. In her situation, I probably would have jus went into shock.
Then, there's Caleb. Also...I just don't know. Again. He was so sketchy. I mean, obviously, since he was practically a rapist and kidnapper. But I just don't think I liked him. I knew his life had been awful before, but he was turning out to be just like the guys he despised. So, I didn't understand a lot of his actions. And I didn't really like how all over the place he was, either. One moment he'd be beating Kitten, the next he'd be soothing her. I guess it's just because I've never really experienced someone like him in a book before. I didn't know what to think. Towards the end, I did begin to like him a little, but not enough to where I want him to get the girl.
The love between them...was practically nothing. I just didn't feel there was any real feelings going on most of the time, and when I did feel the love or caring coming on, it went away just as fast.
I don't know why I'm giving this book 4 stars. It truly wasn't the best-written book, didn't have the best characters, and the plot was only eh...but I just really liked it for some reason. I will be picking up the sequels soon.
(P.S. That review probably sucked, but I've been up all night reading and this book has just frazzled my mind.)

THERE ARE NO WORDS
THIS WAS JUST SO DARK AND TWISTY AND AMAZING
I AM GOBSMACKED

when bae sells you into sex trafficking

There is something that bothers me a LOT about the book and it's the ill-researched language and regions mentioned.
Pakistanis DO NOT speak arabic, they speak urdu primarily and other languages like punjabi, sindhi etc. depending on region. "Kalb" is arabic for dog. In urdu it is "kutta". People from Afghanistan also do not speak arabic, but pashto/parsi.
Pakistan is in South Asia, NOT the middle east.
I don't know why it bothered me so much, probably because it's so easy to google and check rather than make up wrong facts.
My source? I'm Indian born and raised in the middle east in 3 different GCC countries and I can tell you that Pakistanis who've lived in the Gulf don't even pick up Arabic, let alone people who live there. They are only taught how to read it so they can read the Quran, but they wouldn't know the meanings of the words without translation.

Most reviews that give this book a low rating all say the same thing: this book is about rape, this book is about abuse, this book is 'not okay'. I find these reviews to be a little overdramatic. Just because a book revolves around dark topics does not demean its story. Yes, in real life rape and abuse is disgusting and should never happen. But books, on the other hand, are usually meant to tell a story that no one has read before, that is interesting and captivating (no pun intended). I loved reading about Livvie and Caleb, despite what he did to her. I loved reading both Livvie and Caleb's side of the story. I loved finding out there was a second novel because I wanted to read more. Keep an open mind while reading this book. Understand the difference between reality and fantasy.

This is one disturbing a** audiobook. I was horrified! How many times did I put it down, then pick it back up?!?!?!? I just had to know, you know?
