Almost an amnesia story ... but it's about an emergency contact that never got changed. There's back and forth between the ex-hubs and ex-wife. You can two perspectives during the whole story. The timeline element at the beginning of each chapter makes sense the more you dive into the story.

I would give it a 3.5 out of 4. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't laugh out loud funny to me. Maybe I could call it frustration funny? It's a good dig up the past and gain understanding book. Closed door romance. It does have an HEA. :)

Reviewed from a library copy.

I laughed every time they missed the flight, the train, the bus, the car, even on the walk😂
But, I enjoyed reading this book:)
Thank you, authors đŸ€

I like the premise - an ex husband being called in an emergency because he’s still listed as the emergency contact for his ex-wife and this being the catalyst for their reconnecting. I also like the way the plot develops Planes, Trains and Automobiles style. The problem is there wasn’t enough chemistry between the former couple for me to believe there’s any reason why they’d second guess their divorce. Meanwhile, Tom’s current girlfriend whom he’s preparing to propose to is perfectly likable. We’re given no reason to root against her and instead for a reconciliation with Katherine.

This has some cute moments but it’s just not quite the stuff that a second chance romance lover's dreams are made of.

Fun read but I was left a bit unimpressed.

I did not feel the connection between Katherine and Tom. The banter was cute at first but then started really getting on my nerves.
The planes trains and automobile journey started off well and entertaining enough but again I got irritated and kept rolling my eyes at everything that happened.

I was surprised at the focus on the slap stick “comedy” in the train compartment, in the bus, and of the truck driver. For instance, truck driver Gordie / Gordy was eating a hamburger and the way the story focussed on this physical appearance and eating (burping) was really off putting to me. I did not get at all why the authors chose to write about that in such a way (nothing against describing burping, just how it was used to tell the reader things about the character).

I felt bad for Lolo. Yes Tom and Lolo were clearly not a good match, but man up and take care of that, and not a few hours before proposing!!

The narrators were very good!

Read as an audiobook.

I received an ARC of this book (thanks!) and these are my own opinions.

“The thing is,” he says softly, “I wanted to leave you. I meant to leave you. But then I realized how well I know you. And I know that if I left you here to die of your stubbornness, you’d commit yourself fully to haunting me for the rest of my days.” He smiles, and there’s something wistful about it as his gaze roams my face. “Hell, sometimes I think that fully alive, you’ve found a way to haunt me anyway.”

i don’t usually tear up when i read soft romances and ones with no deaths involved but my eyes stung once or twice (or ten times) while reading this book, especially katherine’s chapters. she’s my favorite character that lauren layne has written so far. and tom, thomas, tommy
i don’t know how other heroes will measure up to his standard for me after today. i wish i took my time with this one and let myself enjoy a couple more hours with it but great things always come to an end. ( ˶ᔔᔕᔔ˶

I couldn't stand the MMC at all and it took way too long for things to happen. Also imagine being the poor fiancĂ©e of the MMC 😭
