I started this in the late summer as an audiobook on Audible. It took me forever to finish because I was listening to it during commute to work and on walks with my dog, but then started to listen to Spotify more and make phone calls during those activities. As a result, I completely forgot about it. I decided to finish it up before the New Year so I could at least count it as a 2023 read book.

Me forgetting about it as an option speaks for itself. This book is a three star rating because it’s forgettable. It takes the span over like twelve hours and it’s about 100 pages longer than it needs to be. There were also about five twists in the story that were unnecessary. Some villains just need to die. Also, the villain wasn’t really believable enough for me. He wasn’t a mastermind. He wasn’t conniving or even remotely interesting as an antagonist. He was forgettable.

I give it three stars because I did love the Audible reading. I thought she was captivating and kept me influenced enough to finish the book before the end of the year.

The first two days I read this book, I only managed to get to a little over 40 pages each day, but man did that third reading day go well. The novel is pretty fast-paced, one of those you could very well read in one sitting, if you're not too slow a reader, and have an evening to yourself.

As for the main story, man does Darcy think she's clever, lol, but of course for the plot to work in the way it did, there had to have been a few things she wasn't considering and that's where things went wrong, and turned bloody.

While in the end some strange decisions were made, and something kinda really dumb happened, I guess when you see it occur, it almost makes sense? As in you see it coming? Yeah. Geesh. Of course that would happen, it so often does.

I do want to give a shout-out to our 7-year-old kidnap victim, Jay. She was written to be more clever than any of the adults in the room, and while she had a life-threatening disease, it never played up during all the days she was kidnapped, yay! Atta, girl.

Happy Reading!

As Bing Crosby crooned, she imagined some poor farm boy just out of high school, hunkered in frozen foreign dirt, fighting someone else’s war, dreaming of loved ones back home.

Wow! This was an absolutely stunning thriller. I enjoyed every bit. The pacing was excellent, the characters were so complex, the plot had my heart-stopping and the deep emotional turmoil of the characters had me crying towards the end. The writer did an awesome job to create a very scary atmosphere and wrapped the storyline perfectly towards the end.

Must read!

(Kindle) I love reading book to movie adaptations! The movie was really good, but the book ATEEEEE up the fucking floor and left no crumbs. I enjoyed every second of this book. It started the action from the very first chapter and didn’t let up until the very last sentence in the book. No notes, amazing read.
