[5 Stars] This was even better than the first one! I didn't even think that was possible, but it's definitely the case here! I honestly just think that this series has one of the most fascinating worlds. It is so uniquely woven, and I love how genuine the character are. When I say genuine I mean that the characters are not ashamed to be who they are whether that is something a bit on the darker side or something more innocent. Everyone's character makes such perfect sense, and I love how the different groups of people interact with each other. The resulting conversations are so intriguing. Pretty much what I'm trying to say is that I love this series and need the next book immediately.
I loved this sequel to Written in Red!
I still find the Controller and the other people given 'benevolent ownership' horrible, horrible people. I also still find the humans extremely stupid.
I'm sad that Heather is leaving the courtyard but I knew that she would be able to stay. She's too much of a bunny.
I hope that the Cassandra Sangue pull through and are able to live in the 'normal' world.
I was really sad that Jean couldn't even live with the other blood prophets but was really happy she was able to stay with the simple life folks. :)
Update:
I honestly can never understand the stupidity of humans. All those boys should have been shot and eaten!
I now understand why Simon and Meg's relationship is taking a while to build. I hope all the 'white coats' die a horrible death. -.-
I'm still finding it amusing how the Others still don't understand a lot about humans and their bodies. I felt so embarrassed for Meg when she got her period. :)
I'm still surprised at the lack of either male or females in all the guards. Especially with the Elementals. Like for instance even up to Marked in Flesh there are no male Elementals. Just females. At one point Winter says something about the Father spurting his seed but that it. :/

My thoughts and feelings about the controller and the humans in most of Thaisia is the same. Both are wicked and stupid.
I really hope the Cassandra Sangue are able to live in the 'regular' world. At least Meg will be able to help them and I hope the terra idgene (sp?) are willing to see that as something other than Namid's terrible creation.
I felt really bad for Jean. She really wanted to be free but because she was abused so much she isn't able to. I hope that she gets better and is able to reunite with her family. :)
Edit: December 2019
I will always feel that humans in this book are almost beyond redemption. Without the human pack I would say kill them all. I mean how stupid can you be?
I was really sad that so many Cassandra Sangues were abused and basically kept as slaves. We have to stop putting lipstick on a pig here. The girls were slaves.
I was really happy that the crows I have grown to love did not die. They were so close but Meg saved them!

What can I say, but just another spectacularly awesome installment of The Others series from Anne Bishop. It was amazing and much more fast paced. More fantastic characters were introduced and we get to see some of the usual. It was even funnier this time around, especially being in Simon's head as he tries to decipher the female species, make that the human female species. Speaking of Simon, this time we spend more time in his head and see his struggles with being more human or not and how human is too much for someone of his kind. It was also interesting to see his and Meg's internal battles with defining their relationship and what are the others expectations for said relationship. I was so happy that when a moment of confusion arose about their friendship or rather relationship, they sorted it out quickly and it didn't drag on forever. I also appreciated that the unfinished business from the previous book was also put to rest, well at least for the most part. Murder of Crows was an exhilarating read and I really hate that I have to wait forever for the next book but at least I have something to look forward to.
I read this book immediately after reading the first in the series, and was very disappointed. I was impressed with the plot-driven character development in [b:Written in Red|15711341|Written in Red (The Others, #1)|Anne Bishop|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1411439502s/15711341.jpg|21378102]. However, very little was done to give them any depth this go around. It also seemed like a lot of action was taking place off stage. Simon repeatedly refers to 'the human pack' but little is told about how it formed. Meg felt more like a plot device than the main character of the series. On the plus side, I do feel that I know Simon a little better.
Overall, I'm glad I checked it out from the library rather than purchasing it. I'll read the next installment if it's also available at the library, but I doubt I'll purchase another book in this series unless book 3 impresses me more than book 2.

There are so many reasons why Anne Bishop is my absolute favorite author and this story (and series) has every one of those within it.
Her world building is amazing and never done over the top, easily to envision and really enjoy without getting lost trying to figure out one place from the other.
She is thorough with her characters. They hardly ever sway from who they were meant to be, although in the past she has made a few main characters evolve too quickly which has made the stories a tad.. fake.
This book captivated me in a way only Anne Bishop is capable of doing. How she is able to have her readers feel joy and pain in one breath is nothing sort of magical.

I read this book in a day and parts of it were great, and there were parts that I felt like I was speed reading. I was a little disappointed that there was so much politics and hardly any story between Meg and Simon. I have to read the next book, and I hope I am not disappointed.
