While the first section (after the intro) was a little slow, and although I didn’t agree with some things he said, he had some interesting ideas that made me think. Worthwhile just for that.
I am have doubt about the future the book present, but it make one point clear. It is a whole new world in the future, it will be unlike what we are familiar with.

An incredible follow up to Sapiens. The author takes a bold step in predicting the future of humanity, and how it can be influenced by data and algorithms. A couple of phrases that has stuck with me from the book: "Humans agree to give up meaning in exchange for power". The power he is referring to is not political... it is god-like. And, "what's more valuable - intelligence or consciousness?" This book is Fascinating. Yuval Harari' books are must haves for every home library.
Harari's follow-up to Sapiens doesn't feel quite as dense, though it is a bit of a slog at times to get through. Harari's insight into capitalism and humans' dogged enthusiasm for all things tech sounds like a warning we've heard before but he states the facts of the not-so-distant future plainly. Yet he also ends on a hopeful note - that we will not choose to become gods and that many of us will continue to value the things we hold dear.

- A book about or involving social media -
Een intrigerend boek waarin historicus Harari de rol van een futuroloog op zich neemt. Interessant maar minder dan zijn eerdere boek.

One of those books that really makes you think about the future of humanity. I can't say that it is comforting to contemplate but life will certainly change a lot in the not to distant future. I don't agree with all of Harari's ideas but even when I disagreed with what I was reading it was still fascinating to hear his perspective. Highly recommended (unless you don't like your viewpoints challenged).

As a disclaimer I want say I loved Sapiens and believe every single human on earth needs to read that book. So I had extremely high expectations for this book.
Unfortunately it was highly disappointing. I believe the success of Sapiens meant Harari was forced to publish an another book quickly. Although this book would be amazing on its own - it is super repetitive, and often reaching way beyond reality. I think Harari is a great historian, highly intelligent and overall one of the best thinkers of our time. However I do not think he is a credible futurist. He raises great points and brings up great questions for us to ponder on- but I feel like some of the analysis was a stretch. The book dragged on forever. I had a hard time finishing this book and really I should have gave up long time ago. I might even rate this a two star.

I didn't realize I was reading a horror story when I picked this book up. Great examination on human kind, religion, and technology. This book asked a lot of uncomfortable questions with equally disturbing (possible) answers.
4.5 Stars.
While none of these ideas are particularly new to me, the author delved into them deeply and came up with ideas/conclusions that I had not previously thought about/ been exposed to.
There are SO many things I want to talk about, but they are the kind of topics that do better when having dialogue among a number of people. I suppose this would make for the perfect book club book, should you be lucky enough to find enough people willing to stay committed to this chunker!
I like the way the author presents his ideas and speculations. I like the ideas he encourages the reader to consciously engage with.
I'll do my best to write a formal review for this one and return at a later time. (Though please be warned: I say this ALL the time and rarely remember--its kind of who I am as a person right now).
