This book frustrates me. Is it a fantasy, or is it an apocalyptic thriller with heavily hallucinating vagabonds? Why does it have an open ending? Why the murderer has NO explanations to their deeds??

A rather mediocre novel that doesn't live up to its premise. Most of the plot twists, and 'lies' are rather obvious to the reader, which does not serve well the story. Company of Liars lack a good setting and the characters skim through the surrounding world without much explanation nor descripion (the Glossary at the end does not count, really). This in turn makes Plague in "the story about Plague" rather invisible and less threatening than the (not so) mysterious girl with her runes. Although the characters themselves are interesting and rather convincing, it's really hard to immerse in their struggles.

Finally! I historical novel not set in Victorian England! I great look into England when the Black Plague first ripped through the county and no one had anywhere to go. It did drag for a bit in a few places but otherwise a great read.

For “a novel of the plague” there is significantly little about the plague here. This is a novel about secrets. The secrets we keep from strangers, and the secrets we continue to keep when those strangers have become our partners in survival. Overall, I was highly disturbed and uncomfortable, but I couldn’t quit reading (or listening, in this case. The narrator was terrific!)

There were some bothersome modern ideas and practices projected into this 14th century world. I’m almost certain germ theory and due process did not exist as they were presented here. But I could overlook it for the sake of the story.

This book was not quite what I thought it would be, but I have to respect it. This dark, dark twisted version of the Canterbury Tales is mesmerizing and haunting, asking numerous questions about truth, lies, and human nature. I don't know if I liked it, or if I feel haunted by the howling wolf mentioned in the book itself, but I couldn't put it down and I will be thinking about this one for a long time.

Historical Suspense. The Black Plague has overtaken England and a small group of travelers decide to band together for safety. Very compelling reading, loved the characters, the setting, and the historical details.
