Short version: Although poorly organized this book is short enough that it is still worth investing a few hours to read it. To have any effect on your life it will be up to the reader to spend the days or weeks contemplating and acting on any decisions made as an outcome.

The underlying message and guidance to evaluate the situation that is causing you to question persevering or quitting contains some wisdom. However, the way the book is organized and written is scattered and difficult to follow. Although I've never written a book I can agree with Seth Godin's assertion that writing a short book is tough. However, in this case he succeeded at shortening the content but could have organized it differently to more effectively communicate the theory and guidance.

Interesting little book that frames the decision making process of when to give it your all vs. when to give up in an interesting way.

I read this book over 12 years ago, and just listened to the audiobook again. It’s short but poignant. Equally relevant for those considering endeavors in business, life or in their careers.

In typical Seth fashion, it’s full of anecdotes and business examples that bring the key concepts of life. If you’re ever wondering how to stop doing too many things, or how to be better at what you care about, this is a nice book to read.

At it's heart the dip is a motivational book that is intended to 1) teach what a dip is and when to recognize it and 2) invite you to push through the dip.

My biggest issue is that I fully believe this already short book could have been half the length. By the first 20 pages, I could probably have aced a quiz on what else would be in the book. A lot of points go around in circles, and there were moments where I fully convinced myself that there must've been a word count quota that Godin was trying to meet.

I liked the concept of a dip, but I ultimately felt like I gained nothing from the dip. Maybe that says more about me than it does the book.
