Emmy is the type that uses her mental illness, anxiety, to be an asshole to people that don’t deserve it.

Nellie Wilson hit this one out of the park!! Seriously it’s so darn good. The representation of a smart, capable woman who suffers from anxiety but isn’t stereotypical in the least is just *chefs kiss.*
I love all the details that truly bring these characters to life in my mind: his swimming physique, she sits at her desk with legs curled up & no shoes, he stops to clean his glasses mid conversation… all these tiny touches that make them REAL.
And let’s be honest, NW can write the heck out of a love scene. If you’ve ever needed to see yourself in a love scene bc you’ve never seen someone struggle with sexual issues, this book is for you. The care, love and respect that is given to these characters so they can have even more incredible connections is standing ovation worthy.
So good. You’ll love it.
I received an advanced digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

Ryan was literally everything I loved him so much. Emmy though just REALLY bothered me. I might be projecting but at some points it was just too much. Like you don’t have to sabotage everything. I know anxiety can get really bad hence why I think I’m projecting I just wanted her to at some points actually believe things won’t be that bad.

I struggled through the first 30% of this story as the heroine was incredibly abrasive, but I tried to keep in mind that I don't deal with anxiety like she does. My lived experience is different. Finally, right at that 30% mark, Emmy showed some vulnerability and stopped treating Ryan like a villain. That was definitely a turning point in my enjoyment of the book.

Ryan, for his part, was absolute book boyfriend perfection.

The realistic anxiety representation as well as the repeated pandemic and lockdown references made this book tough to read at times, but I loved the setting, the friendships, and all of the history lessons.

FMC was awful. MMC was a doormat. I love when books acknowledge modern social justice issues, but this book was not the way. She was combative and mean. He wasn’t allowed to have an opinion or compromise because he’s a CIS white handsome male. I feel after the lust fades, a breakup is imminent.
