The Winter Solstice by Rosamund Pilcher
🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
Short synopsis: The action revolves around a small town in Scotland and a little mansion that is now inherited by Oscar, who is just the half owner, the other half of the house belonging to his cousin. He moves here with his new love, and then everything revolves about them getting ready for the Christmas party and people that would become part of it. His new girlfriend's great niece comes to stay with them, as well as her niece, and then they start preparing for the Christmas party.
This is one of those cozy heartwarming, feel good books, where people are nice, they live in a tight knit community, everything is sweet, everything is great, without being cheesy or over the top. I liked every single character in this book, the whole plot was smooth and comforting. Don't expect any type of thriller or mystery wrapped in a riddle or anything like that, the action is soft and it's something  you want to wrap yourself in when you're down or you don't feel good. You want to read a book like this to uplift your spirit, to make you believe in a second chance to love, because this is what is all about... every single couple in this book is at that point in life, where either the spouse died,or left or there was a divorce, and now it's time to give love a second chance.
Rosamond Pilcher has this unique quality of bringing you into the story, making you love her characters, and the cozy atmosphere and making you want to stay within it. This is one of those books that I wish it had been a series, and I would meet these characters later on, see how their life evolved, see what's the next chapter in their lives.
I highly recommend it. I loved it way more than the "Shell Seekers", but not as much as "September", which still remains my favorite book by Rosamond Pilcher. After being fairly disappointed by "The Shell Seekers ", this book just reminded me what a great writer she actually is, and just made me think how I can't wait to read another of her books. Happy reading, everyone! 😊

I really enjoyed the Scottish setting and thought the book was old-school sweet.

Still lovely and cozy characters with a few fringe love to hate, selfish brutes. A little repetitive with the switch over in character chapters, but still a sweet, warm hearted read. Not quite as good as The Shell Seekers. I will definitely pick up more of her books.

Predictable but enjoyable.

I quite enjoyed this but it gets docked a point for being unnecessarily long-winded.

This was the perfect read to bring me into the Christmas season - with the impeccable timing of finishing on Christmas Eve (the same day the story ends).

One of those books where it feels like not much of significance is happening as the story progresses - regardless, I found myself invested in each character - I was rooting for each of them! A story of an unlikely “family” who finds each other at just the right time for each of them.

I was introduced to Rosamunde Pilcher with The Shell Seekers, and after enjoying Winter Solstice, only wish she was still writing.

“Carrie, you mustn’t think this is the end of laughter and loving. Life is so extraordinary. Wonderful surprises are just around the most unexpected corners.” p. 245

I enjoyed this book so much. Great characters and story line. I felt like I could see the environment this story took place in. A story of what happens when you live your life in the fashions you choose, not by other’s opinions. I look forward to reading other books by this author.
