A page turner for sure but missing some essential element that makes me love a book. Plot only takes me so far.

I consumed the audiobook and had to listen to the male narrator at fast speeds because he was so dull. Almost quit when he kept pronouncing dementia “demenseeah.”
Too much bible for a book that invents a new god in the end.

An interesting premise for a book. Since I read it on Kindle, I had no idea how incredibly long this book was and just kept waiting for it to end. And it just wouldn't end. It felt like there were many places it could have been broken into multiple books or end but it somehow struggled back to life and kept going. It's not often I can't wait for a book to end, but this one just seemed dragged out needlessly.

So on the one hand, it was riveting and I couldn't put it down, despite the length. On the other hand, the leeeength. Let's be real, it definitely could have been cut down a bit. I feel like there were a lot of perspectives that... really didn't need to be in there, but okay. Also really wasn't feeling the surprise rape scene (m/m, and pretty graphic). And the ending. WHAT WAS THAT ENDING, AND WHY.

But in the long run, I enjoyed it... and I kind of feel like it's the sort of book that'll make a (better?) movie somehow.

Interesting apocalypse book. Didn’t enjoy some of the side tangents or the ending, but didn’t make me give it less than 3 stars.

Over the years of reading Chuck, I can tell that he must look up to SK for multiple reasons. One, he mentions him multiple times in this book. Fine. But he's also taken on some of SK's personality where he feels the need to shove and force his political view in his books ever four pages or so. I don't really care where you fall when you're writing the book but be careful not to make it so overt and forced. Much of what was written politically was absolutely pointless in this book. I found myself rolling my eyes many times based on the overtly prejudiced and generalized representations of entire groups of people. It just brought nothing to the book. He could have probably chopped down a good 15,000 words and made this book a bit easier to digest if he left so much of his views out of it. I highly doubt I'll keep going with this series if it's this fluffed up with his views. I came to be entertained, not read your personal blog.
