This Book Was The Pinnacle Of Fiction! Will Recommend This Book To Everyone I Know! Couldn’t Put It Down. Felt Immersed In The Story At All Times. Makes You FEEL Something. I’m Thinking About It Long After Finishing It.

“ There will always be people who want to tear you down. When they’d laugh at me or make me feel inferior, he’d always bump my shoulder and say “Chin Up. They lose their power when you stop giving it to them.” - Shielded

Shielded follows Jennesara as she’s living her life as princess of the land of Hálendi but one day she discovers a mysterious note and make it her mission to uncover it’s findings.

This book was an amazing experience.

Can we go back to when fantasy books were actually about adventure and magic not just romance?

This book was so refreshing to read. The characters were fantastic, I love the heroine she's badass, feminist but not at all pick me. The love interest is sweet and brave (so much better than the over done alpha male). The plot twists were a bit predictable and the pacing was funny.

Also I need need need a map

First, thank you to the publisher and the Netgalley for the e-ARC review copy!

And now...

WOW. WOOOOOWWWW! As in ‘holy wow, how am I to survive after that?!’ THIS. WAS. SO. GOOD. I truly enjoyed every moment of it! All the the glimpses and hints, as well as being in Jenna’s head! I don’t know how I’m going to be able to wait for more!!!! I adored the world building, and all the bits about magic... And Jenna was AMAZING. I loved this warrior princess! Ugh, it’s just so good! Highly recommend!

I mean look at that cover!!

Now I don’t usually choose YA books, mostly because I find them to be a little formulaic at times. However, when I saw the cover of this book … it just called to me. I had to have it, and I was not disappointed.

This one was hard to put down. The story was paced well and very interesting. A big plus is the main character herself, she was absolutely winning. As a young girl forced to play the game of thrones with absolutely zero training, not only does she do a darn good job of it but she also retains her sweet nature and courageous spirit. She could be a little bit of a Mary Sue in that she is surprisingly good at battling and intrigue once she gets into it but I get the feeling there is a genetic reason why she is predisposed to the life she finds herself in that will be explained more fully in future books so it’s not hard to stomach.

The romance she finds herself in is adorable. It’s not treacly but still sweet and completely understandable … he is a real cutie! The secondary characters in the book are also easy to love, especially the two sisters she meets in Turia. Oh! There is also a family that helps her when she is injured that I find myself inordinately fond of. I don’t think I’ll ever see them in the book again but I just loved them and keep hoping they will show up again. This demonstrates to me the strength of the authors ability to make you feel for and identify with the characters, even background characters.

All in all, I really liked this book and I’m looking forward to more from this author. If I’m not mistaken this is her debut book and it deserves any and all hype it receives. I hope it is very successful!

I received this complimentary ARC from netgalley and delacourt press in exchange for an honest opinion.

I really enjoyed this book and read it in two sittings (albeit far apart because so busy with work.) The story follows a young princess who learns that she is betrothed and leaving the next day to meet him. In addition, her brother is leaving for the north as there is concern for war. This a wonderful story full of magic and intrigue that was delightful and fun to read. I really enjoyed reading about the characters and found the romance really charming. I found it just a lot of fun overall.

A really solid debut. The romance was compelling, without overshadowing the plot, which was fun and fast-paced. I liked the protagonist, and was pleasantly surprised with how she made decisions that were sensible and understandable given the knowledge she had.

I received this arc via Netgalley.
