A thoughtful reflection on various taboo topics of women aging. Some of it was very relatable.

Excellent! Not so much a ‘memoir,’ as Brooke has already done that. But as a 20-something who is already starting to panic about aging, I thought this book offered some lovely takes on aging as a woman. So much of what she wrote here is so warm, so optimistic, and so comforting. If you go into the book for that, I think you’ll be really satisfied. Some chapters definitively get a little repetitive and a little preach-y, but the first 2/3 of the book really hit home for me and made me feel like I should go call my mom. Both to chat and to tell her I really think she should read this book.

I tend to really enjoy a celebrity memoir in my ears in the summer. I listened to this one while getting ready to head home for a memorial service. While it wasn’t the juicy Hollywood gossip I associate with this kind of book, it was a really good listen. Just as the title implies, this is about being a woman of a certain age and the author’s experiences. I just turned 40 so I’m not quite where she’s at. However, a lot of what she said resonated with me (sending my eldest to college next month) and I found it really helpful and inspiring to hear her stories. Did some of the book feel like a sales pitch for her company? Yes. But that’s fine with me, especially since her company is specifically to help women in mid and later life, so it felt appropriate. Also it’s her book so she can do whatever she wants. There’s a decent amount of swearing to reader, know thyself. I really enjoyed this memoir and am curious who else has read it?

This was a great mix of memoir, inspirational writing/ self help, humor, and hard cold facts. I really appreciate the data she chose to include in regards to women in the workplace, aging, menopause, and the various other topics she provided study data for. It made her arguments stronger and made her experiences eclipse her as a celebrity figure.
I listened to the audiobook and I highly recommend it, Brooke Shields reads it and it makes it all that more personal. I could relate a lot of some of the things she discussed, and found myself really appreciating her outlook on life and growing old.
After this I am definitely going to read her other two books because I am very interested to hear more about her life and perspective.
