More detail to follow...

Enjoyment: 0.5 * 2 = 1
Kept me coming back for more but underwhelming when it came to character investment.

World: 0.5
Not immersive. Good tensions between tribes.

Characters: 0.5
Main character was fine. Side characters were underdeveloped.

Plot: 1
Historical fiction so only so much that can be done here. But lots of plot points consecutively without much down time.

this book starts slow. my 3 star is mainly with the pacing issues in the beginning of the book. however, getting through that is rewarding as the rest of the boomk does pick it up. I definitely will be picking up the next one.

This book details the rise of Temujin, (known to us later as Genghis Khan) and how he started unifying the different tribes of the Mongols. But this is historical fiction and the author talks about the changes he made - artistic license - at the end. This is a well written book. If I had any complaint, it would be that the author took the main characters from one trial of survival to the next, all the way to the final battle. But otherwise, kept my interest. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I should also read the non-fiction account of this conqueror to compare.

OMG such a solid start. I love this author and can't wait to keep going with this series.

My favorite of the Conqueror books. Second read-through, still engaging.

Gripping. It seemed to be completely at odds with the more academic "Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World" by Jack Weathorford, but it's been long enough since I read it that perhaps I simply missed some parallels. Iggulden is not shy about highlighting things he modified from his research, and I accepted that this was an entertaining work of fiction with touches of biographical truth.

An epic beginning.

If you haven't yet, try to see the movie as well: Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan.

Erinnert ein bisschen an Saxon Stories von Cornwall. Man möchte direkt zum Geschichtsbuch greifen...
