my kids love this, and I really think it checks all (or most?) of the boxes for an excellent picture book. It's got everything--playful illustration, animals, humor, rhyming, repetition (without being annoying), surprise, and the little guy triumphing. It's not surprising that this is a favorite for a lot of kids--and parents too!

A fab colourful book which is fun to read to my little girl. She loves the voices I make for each character

Read again and again with the 4 yo, who almost has it memorized. She loved saying "the three things" when the mouse describes the Gruffalo, and to be tickled when she reads "he has purple prickles all over his back!"

I can't believe I've never read this before. Also, the audiobook is delightful!

I’m underwhelmed with this one. A clever mouse walks through the forest and tricks each predator by describing an (assumed make believe) creature Calle the Gruffalo that would like to eat them. Eventually the mouse meets the creature of his imagination and is able to trick him as well. It’s told with rhyming text which isn’t my favorite (unless it’s exceptionally well done). The illustrations are just ok, nothing to write home about. My kids enjoy it well enough but it’s just not one is ever pick up off the shelf in my own.
