I really struggled to finish this book for a number of reasons. Firstly there is practically no character development. In the last book, Lena was screwed up and Jeffrey and Sara were flirting about not knowing how to commit to their relationship. In this book, nothing had changed! I got bored of Lena shrugging people off and yelling for them not to touch her, and I got frustrated with Sara and Jeffrey falling in love and then arguing and running in the other direction! Either kill Lena off or get her fixed but don't keep dragging out the 'I'm screwed up!' theme.

Secondly I felt that though the book is quite substantial in size there wasn't really that much happening, a few people got killed but there didn't seem to be any real urgency in the investigation, and the sub plot of Tessa just kind of petered out but for a few haphazard phone calls to remind us about it chucked in.

Overall I read the book because I liked the first couple and I do like the characters (Except Lena) and I really want to see development but it just didn't happen in this book.

I really wanted to like this murder mystery. Usually a series gets better and better but this last book in the series fell way short IMO. it takes such little effort to do research and when the author fails in the detail the book loses authenticity. For example, “I barely had enough time to grab the Glock, slam on the magazine and flip off the safety…” unlike many handguns, there is no safety to flip off on a Glock. Additionally, you would need to rack in a round in order for the Glock to fire something. On the shot got, the author referred to the shotgun shell as a bullet. It’s not a bullet it’s filled with numerous small, pellet-like spherical sub-projectiles called shot.

The worst about the novel however were not these picky details, the worst was how she turned an otherwise decent novel in to an R rated novel. Totally unnecessary and ruined any positive there was in the novel.

Having started with the will Trent series and now backtracking through the grant county books
I totally get why Sara hates Lena. She pissed me off so much in this book. I did not and still do not understand her relationship with Ethan. She’s so in her own head and stubborn. Had she just been honest with Jeffrey I feel like this could have been solved sooner
also, if you’ve read Will Trent #11
was that the same mason??
finally, if you’ve read Will Trent #10
when Carlos (I think that’s was his name) said he got weird vibes from Brock had me screaming in the back, YOU HAVE NO IDEA!!!!!
anyway, great book as always from Karin
