What a Time to Be Alone: The Slumflower's Guide to Why You Are Already Enough by Chidera Eggerue

Aesthetically, this book is set up really well. It is very easy to follow and it was loaded with easy to follow sections. I thought she did a good job introducing the 3 sections in the beginning, but the transitions weren't as pronounced in the actual book. It was repetitive at times and some of the things she was saying, I had already read them on twitter so they didn't surprise me. She included small sections that discussed race and white privilege and I was surprised and pleased by this, but even those weren't as fledged out as they could have been. It was very personal, clever, and sincere.

This book will remind you of your self worth. That you deserve everything and more. It’s time to let go of people that do not benefit you- it’s not losing someone it’s GAINING freedom, strength, hope, and so many other positive feelings. You’ll learn that being alone is a lot better than being with someone that treats you like sh*t.

While in the library today, I took a break from the grad school grind to read What a Time to Be Alone. This reading experience immediately bolstered my mood, empowering me with the self-love and motivation to crush the rest of the day. Honestly, I think Slumflower’s words (and art) will power me through the rest of the week. Buy, read, and cherish this book. It will nourish your soul!
