I guess my rating has more to do with how well I relate to this book rather than the writing. I felt every emotion that Bea was feeling. I relived parts of my past while reading this book. I got a new outside look on the situation I was in a few years back. I would recommend this book to any and all minors who believe age is just a number.

The first time I read this I gave it a two-star rating and I read it again, thinking I would feel the same way about it. I had issues with this book on every page, but I can't say it wasn't an addictive read. I found all of the characters incredibly dumb, from the way the Bea describes Dane in their first meeting to how quickly things heat up between the two. I have never read a more problematic book than this one, but I devoured it all the same and will no doubt pick it up again.

The best book of 2016 for me so far, masterfully written, this book fills a hole in my life that I didn't even know needed filling.

Made me very uncomfortable, A+

I read this when I was 14 in grade 8, and though the writing wasn't groundbreaking, I still think about it to this day. It sticks in my mind as a "what not to do" type of thing.

I'm not super fond of how the relationship is portrayed as romance and not just inherently predatory, which it is, but I get it portraying as "romantic" from Bea's point-of-view. It's that sort of illicit thrill when you sneak a cookie after your mom told you not to.

Even if this book did not change my life, it sure made an impression on younger me. It's not my usual fare nowadays, but I think I might re-read it. Even just to remind me that, yeah, that teacher may be hot, but they're an adult person who should have no interest in a teenager, let-alone their student.

Publisher’s Summary: In this sexy and intriguing novel, an intense—and passionate—bond between a high school senior and her music teacher becomes a public scandal that threatens the reputation of both.

Bea has a secret.

Actually, she has more than one. There’s her dream for the future that she can’t tell anyone—not her father and not even her best friend, Plum.

And now there’s Dane Rossi. Dane is hot, he shares Bea’s love of piano, and he believes in her.

He’s also Bea’s teacher.

When their passion for music crosses into passion for each other, Bea finds herself falling completely for Dane. She’s never felt so wanted, so understood, so known to her core. But the risk of discovery carries unexpected surprises that could shake Bea entirely. Bea must piece together what is and isn’t true about Dane, herself, and the most intense relationship she’s ever experienced in this absorbing novel from Nancy Ohlin, the author of Beauty.

Consent is an overall alright book. Although the plot of it was weird as well as the ending could’ve been a lot better, the book itself was decent. Nancy Ohlin is a good writer but in all honesty this storyline had so much potential and could’ve been done a lot better. I would only recommend this to someone who enjoys a quick read while also having patience.

Ehhh, this book was okay. In the beginning the book was cheesy and the writing wasn't all that great. As things started happening it got more interesting, but then it just ended up in a bland kind of way. I wasn't satisfied with the way the story ended. At times I hated the book, and at times I really thought I could really enjoy it, but it was just kind of in between. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it.

2.5, maybe a 2.75

I had a hard time rating this. On one hand, I enjoyed the writing. On the other hand, it's very problematic. The people in Bea's life seemed either a little too understanding of the issue at hand or too ready to accept her lies. The author started to address the problematic storyline near the end of the book, but I don't think it was fully handled in the way that it needs to be.
