Published two years prior to his death, The Last Night of the Earth Poems collects some of the best musings of Mr. Charles Bukowski.
The melancholic tone of the poems tugs at the reader's heartstrings as Bukowski recounts childhood memories and past experiences. He shares his opinions on music, literature and being a writer with great maturity, bleak humor, pragmatism and an acute sense of confrontation with the world - which is one of the things I enjoy the most in his writings.
Charles Bukowski sticks to reality and delivers crazy wild lines like nobody's business. "Dinosauria, we" (From which the film "Born Into This" takes its title) is, by a country mile, my favorite Bukowski poem. It is a testament to his incredible talent, a visionary masterpiece that will still be relevant in a thousand years.

Don't start reading this when you get your first office job.

The prose itself is fine and can be touching at times but I also learned about the author while reading these poems. I have a hard time separating the artist from the art so I wasn't able to finish. I would recommend to read this novel prior to learning about Bukowski and his social beliefs if you have the same pattern of thinking. Might return later but ultimately it was not compelling enough to have me finish at this time.
