If I'm expected to give an in depth review on this one, count me out. This has been read and reviewed by many, many folks who gladly went over the characters and the tale.
I'm just here to gush about it.
I could not put this book down. I loved the story. I loved Eli's narrative. I loved the characters, which is not to say I was required to like them or respect them or agree with their morals (or lack thereof) but what an interesting crew! This was fun and often dark humor funny but now and then, seemingly out of nowhere, Eli would have a thought that was so tender and true that it sent a little zing! through me.
'Our blood is the same, we just use it differently.'
What would the world be, I thought, without money hung around our necks, hung around our very souls?
I had heard the buzz about this book several years back but it just never peaked my interest enough to pick it up. SHAME ON ME.
'Most people are chained to their own fear and stupidity and haven't the sense to level a cold eye at just what is wrong with their lives. Most people will continue on, dissatisfied but never attempting to understand why, or how they might change things for the better, and they die with nothing in their hearts but dirt and old, thin blood - weak blood, diluted - and their memories aren't worth a goddamned thing, you will see what I mean.'
I mean...c'mon!

Wow, it's a wacky coincidence that I read this soon after watching the Coen brothers version of True Grit, because this has a very Portis-style to it. It's funny in its deadpan delivery, yet it also uses its straightforwardness and sincerity to deliver some honest and emotional moments. I literally chose this because of its quirky title and the back-of-book summary how it's about two brothers in the West, but it's a series of humorous events and observations that eventually turns into an elegiac reflection of what we choose to do with our lives.

This was an interesting oddball of a book. Not a pure shoot-em-up western, but it certainly had a decent amount of that. It had plenty of dark comedy around but also an introspective seriousness at its heart that was surprising and welcome. It was nearly episodic in that the journey to San Francisco had lots of stops along the way that weren't necessarily there to serve an overall story, but I enjoyed it and it's pacing.
My only quibble was once they finally reached Hermann Warm. It soaked up an awful lot of the book considering it wasn't the most interesting part. This includes an entire chapter where Mr. Warm gives an account of his entire life that was kinda boring.
Overall, though, I liked this book a good deal. The brothers have a very real and sometimes heartbreaking relationship that enjoyed both ups and downs along the way, and it was a joy to read their journey.

A Western, but not a shoot-em-up Western. Entertaining characters-the story is told by the ostensible 'bad guy', but of course you question what that even means as you read the story. Fun, easy to read, satisfying ending, what more could you want?
I loved reading this book. I could not stop talking to everyone around me about how much I loved this book. It’s been a while since I’ve felt so immersed in a story, and I really enjoyed the unfolding of this one. I was always eager to pick this book up and read more about the Sisters brothers adventures together! This story makes me want to read more cowboy tales from ye past

Throughly entertaining and engaging. From the first line to the end you are fully engaged in the story of Charlie and Eli.
Loved the story of how two brothers are hired guns and how they pursue their quarry and get the job done.

I will not give a star rating as I feel that I have been spoilt lately with some beautifully written novels, that this was simply such a letdown from the first page. I immediately disliked the narrative, language, and speed.
Having only read 68 pages, I am most certainly unable to give a fair review. However, what I did read was disappointing, humour lacking for my tastes, and nothing was grabbing me to give it a good shot.
