We were Liars was my first Lockhart book. So glad for the hype around it that's brought me to this talented YA author.
I love the conflict and range of emotions that Frankie tunnels through here. Respect me! Oh… or maybe just kiss me.
Fun but thought-provoking as well.

I need to read this book at least two more times to fully appreciate it. E. Lockhart has the rare ability to write a story with a page-turner plot and beautiful prose. Magical
A boarding school campus mystery that hit all the right notes.
pete said that frankie's the anti bella swan and that's pretty true. mostly it's a book about falling in love and questioning everything about that whole mess. some really great points about the expectations of society.

My heart says 4 but my brain says 3. Gaslight gatekeep girlboss
amazing book! not only does it bring into question the power struggle between genders, it also criticizes the panoptic nature of institutions (particularly the boarding school frankie attends). fun stuff with word play also (neglected positives and all that). frankie is one of the best characters i've come across. she's smart, subversive and assertive. great role model for any girl. even the ending feels realistic. i'd love to see this in a discussion setting!

I have read and re read this book so many times first when I was 14 and I’m still going back to it! So good
update: reread this in July 2015 and it's still awesome. If anything, I like it even more now since I can recognize what a badass feminist Frankie is.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I've found secret societies intriguing since I saw the episode of "Gilmore Girls" where Rory writes an article on Yale's Life and Death Brigade. Frankie was easy to identify with, and I loved some of the author's minor themes, for example, neglected positives.
Some great things in this book:
-the ingenious pranks
-the hilarious e-mails between Alpha and Frankie
-Frankie's use of neglected positives
-Frankie's sharp mind
I liked the ending of the book because I felt it was realistic. If it were real life, Matthew wouldn't want Frankie back after she almost got his best friend expelled.
