This is not as fun as her other novels. Rather darkish.

It’s been many years since I have read anything by Jane Austen. Persuasion was such a lovely way to venture back into the Regency Era, bringing all of the intrigue and rules of aristocracy and proper society. It definitely took me a few chapters to become invested in the characters and fall into the “swing of things” regarding the writing style & use of English, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Austen had a humor and an elevated sense of things that was before her time, and reading this novel has encouraged me to read another one in the near future.

I read this one summer when I was a teenager and had a hard time getting through this book. I've never been a fan of Jane Austen but wanted to give it a fighting try. Maybe if I reread it as a 30 something year old I might like it but for now I absolutely hated this book.

As always... 5 magnificent stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Austen is always a good time and spending time with Miss Anne Eliot is my favorite of all.
This story is one I can identify with. Regret. Loss. Listening to "well intentioned" friends... petty jealousies. Family members being obsessed with how things look or how THEY look.
It's all here in Austen's Persuasion. ADORED this re-read and it makes me want to watch the screen adaptation again :)
