“What loneliness is more lonely than distrust?”
Blood On Snow by Jo Nesbo is the story about Olav, a hitman who is a “fixer” and has been given the job to kill his boss’s wife.
This is a fast paced crime thriller. Here we have our “fixer” Olav, an intriguing character with a dark sense of humour and a sucker for love. Initially I thought there would be a lot of violence in the story which there is however there is a strange love story as well. Instantly I liked Olav’s character and how he speaks to the reader about his life and that aspect is what kept me reading. There were parts of the story where I felt it was a bit far fetched and wished there was more about his confrontations with his victims but I still read on and by the time I finished it I did like it. It’s a quick crime thriller with an interesting character with exposure to his unusual career which leads him to unexpected paths.

I first want to admit that I appreciate Patti Smith as a singer and songwriter.
I also want to admit that maybe it was possibly my grave error that 1) I listened to this as Nesbo's first non-Harry Hole-story as my first audiobook of his work, and 2) I put Patti Smith in an unenviable position of presenting this book.
This book was dramatically different from Nebso's previous books -- it probably makes a large difference that it was done in first-person. Smith presented this book in a consistent manner. That means whether it is a murder scenario or a love scene, it is presented in exactly in the same manner. That did make it interesting -- but it also led to bit of monotony. It probably sounds odd, given the title, but the most inciting word she emitted was "blood". That is not representative of her, but just an observation.
The story was interesting, and interestingly presented, but I am looking forward to going back to a Hole-centered story. Instead of being a story of pursuing a crime with a detective to the end, this was presented from the brain of a criminal. So a moderate rating is appropriate to me.

‘I fix people.’ This is the job summary of our main character. Only his fixing is of a more permanent nature. And like many, he hates his job and only stumbled into it because of who he knew, and one severely gross misunderstanding. But now it owns him, and he’s determined to make a drastic change, to escape the vicious circle, to have love—though he is clueless as to what love means.
Told from the perspective of a deranged hit man, we get the unreliable and delusional tale of his reformation—even if it is only in his daydreams.
It’s a Nordic Noir—dark, cold, gory, morbid, an overall depressing piece of gangster autobiography—but it reads like mid-twentieth American literature in places: a bit Holden Caulfield, a bit Hemingway, doses of the awkward damaged insanity of Vonnegut or Heller.
The subject matter is grim all the way through, but this ending is almost a happily ever after…

Blood On Snow - Jo Nesbo
Blurb
Olav lives the lonely life of a fixer.
When you 'fix' people for a living - terminally - it’s hard to get close to anyone.
Now he’s finally met the woman of his dreams.
But there are two problems.
She’s his boss’s wife.
And Olav’s just been hired to kill her.
My Review
I am a massive fan of Jo Nesbo and when I saw he had a new book coming out I got very excited. I have read all of his previous books, both Harry Hole and the stand alone books. This one was no different I had to read it.
First off I have to say the book itself is very clever because it simulates blood on snow.Clever huh!
Normally his books are written so you know the situation from the outside. However this was written from Olav point of view, I found this a nice refreshing change, Olav is a bit simple but you cannot help but really like him.
You can read this book in a matter of hours and I am looking forward to the next one. This may be a good one for those who have never read Nesbo before to start on, just to get a feel if his writing as his other books can be a bit intense.
Read it! It's a new type of style for Nesbo although it does rin along the lines of some of his other books, it is a must read.
4 stars (because nothing beats Hole)

Quick read. Not a thick book, and big text on small pages. Read this in an hour or two. I was annoyed because the original was split in two, but it turned out this is not a first part. This is an independent novel that comes to a proper end; the second book is independent novel in the same setting.
Anyway, this was a nice little crime story. Nothing earth-shaking and certainly nothing as interesting as the Harry Hole books, but a nice little story.

This was not a typical Jo Nesbo novel. And, it wasn't a typical crime novel, either.
This book was focused on an anti-hero, a criminal, a paid assassin.
He is not the extra brilliant protagonist, as he admits himself.
But, despite that fact, he makes his own decisions. And, everything goes wrong!
Every turn and twist of this novel is so unexpected, so sudden, that we, readers, can only be left to try to keep up!
Of course, like anything Jo Nesbo writes, this book was very well-written.
At some points, though, I found myself confused and wondering what is true and what was just a dream!
Generally, I was just given the impression that I have to read the next book of this duology, in order to better understand what is going on.
It's not that I didn't like this novel, it's just that, when compared to Nesbo's main series, Harry Hole would win again and again!
All in all, 3 stars for a quick and quite enjoyable read.
