The second Mordred was introduced
I knew there was going to a love triangle (I hate love triangles but it's not the worst one I've seen 😑)
. Mordred and Arthur were both good guys but in all honesty the book focuses on Guinevere so much that they did not feel as solid as characters to me. I did dislike the
reveal that Guinevere was actually sent to Camelot to be protected not protect Arthur
. I liked the magic of knots although sometimes the book would feel the need to explain the magic when I was able to figure out the rules without being told. The book kind of skips over the kingdom/court politics in favor of the magic stuff which is fine but I like that sort of stuff. I liked that the author used some of the King Arthur myth and added new details too. It made the story more interesting and unpredictable in a way that some retellings or stories "inspired" by myths or fairytales fail to do.

Kinda slow-paced and with a pretty weak protagonist, but still entertaining and enjoyable nonetheless - 3.5/5

DID NOT FINISH: 34%

I have read more than a third of this book and almost nothing has happened. Where is the plot? It is simply uninteresting. It is not horrible, and I could have probably could have read more if I wasn’t in the middle of so many books. The writing is mediocre, except for the parts from the dark queen's pov which were atrocious. Everything else, from the characters to the worldbuilding is just fine. Nothing is great and Guinevere doesn't really do her job. She just does those weak knotts and that is it. She and Arthur do not discuss anything worthwhile and the author tries to create this love triangle between Guinevere, Arthur and Mordred which is completely useless.

I LOVED this book!!! When does the next one come out?!?!?

If you are a fan of Arthurian Tales (but not a stickler for how they are presented) you will love this book! It’s rife with magic and action. This young heroine is still trying to figure out herself in the midst of so many things, I really love her. She is so relatable to me as a teenager yet I can be so frustrated with her stubbornness as she heads in a direction I fear is wrong. All of the main set of characters are well designed and stick true to their namesakes but leave their own mark on the tale. I look forward to the next great adventure with them!

4.25 stars - I really enjoyed this one! It was fun to see the characters of Camelot come alive in new ways! I liked Guinevere and all of the other characters. I found the knot magic really interesting and unique. I’m excited to see what happens with the rest of the trilogy!

OH MY GOD. OHHHH MYYYYYY GOD.

This book was everything jdjsjsjsjsj

Firstly, I fell in love with White’s writing style, which pulled me into the story and captivated me from beginning to end. Although I believe there could have been more world-building, and some characters could be a little more complex, I still loved this book.

I fell in love with the characters and the setting and the plot. The plot was magnificent - so many plot twists that had be gaping and gasping aloud. So many “what the heck” moments.

When I was halfway through, I had already preordered the second book, and I cannot wait to read it! It’s such a long wait and I really want it now!

This is probably one of my favourite books of all time...DAMN.

Arthurian legend retelling... sign me up! So what we have is a story in which our protagonist Guinevere, or rather a girl posing as Guinevere, is sent to Arthur to be his new wife. The catch? She’s Merlin’s student and assigned to protect Arthur from any magical harm. She has to navigate court and maintain her identity all the while a dark magical force seems to be lurking. There is a mysterious knight who is undefeatable in battle known as the “Patchwork Knight” and Mordred, Arthur’s nephew and knight just seems to be seeing right through her. Let me start by saying Mordred was my favorite character from this story, and if I’m being honest I ship him with Guinevere so much more than Arthur. Arthur just came off..... bland and kinda like stale bread. Guinevere’s entire thought process with him is “ oh he’s nice to me and is pretty cute, guess I’ll chose him over everything else now” and he just doesn’t really have any chemistry with her as opposed to Mordred who she literally feel sparks around and what *gasp* he actually has a personality and story. So yes, I did enjoy this book but honestly that ending.... I am invested in the next book to see where this goes because I am definitely team Mordred. (Honestly reading this was like watching Cursed (Netflix) and instead of shipping Arthur x Nimue (the protagonists) I was shipping Nimue x Lancelot)
