A new series for me, Killing Trail is the first in the exciting Timber Creek K-9 Mysteries. Margaret Mizushima writes realistic characters in Officer Mattie Cobb and her K-9 German Sheppard partner, Robo. I loved their relationship and learning more about how K-9 partners work. The may also be a romance interest between the local veterinarian and Mattie. Cole is the divorced full-time father of two girls.
The blurb will get you going without giving away any twists. I really enjoyed this read.

A mystery novel about a strong female police officer and her K-9? Yes please! This book did not disappoint and I'm excited to read more of the series.

Classic mystery with romantic element and DOGS! I'm not a mystery reader, but I really enjoyed this story and learned a little more about K-9 dogs. It has interesting characters I liked and kept me turning the pages. This is book one of a series with at least eight books - so nice to have more to look forward to.

This is my first book by Margaret Mizushima and I will definitely be reading more! Follow Timber Creek K-9 Officer Mattie Cobb and her partner Robo as they search for the murderer of a popular high school student, Grace, and soon after a local dog breeder, Mike.

Mattie and Robo are a great team who face hostile colleagues and townspeople, physical abuse, illegal drugs, all while they uncover m many secrets in their small town during the investigation. I think my favorite character is foster parent, Mama T (because the name Mother Theresa was already taken!). She was my highlight to the novel - every child needs a Mama T in their life.

While this is definitely a murder/suspense mystery, it also easily deals with both healthy and unhealthy relationships, self, trusting yourself and others, and the sense of community - especially in a small town. People helping people just because its' the right thing to do.

Great for those who like mysteries, dogs, and Colorado. Not a literary suspense, if that’s more your bag.

This is a solid police procedural set in Colorado with Deputy Mattie Cobb and her k-9 partner Robo. I enjoyed the characters and look forward to reading more.
I deducted 2 stars for weird sexist comments that I notated. In fairness it was written in 2015 and things have changed. For example Mattie observed of her work colleague “Stella looked the perfect mix of professional and sexy.” No. Just no.
