It was hard to visualise some of the characters
After hearing nothing but bad things about this book, I was more than pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed reading it.
The writing style (in 3rd person present tense) being hard to read was perhaps the thing I had heard most about this book, however this personally never bothered me, and I found the dialogue and descriptions punchy and easy to follow. The action scenes themself benefitted from this point of view as it made them feel present and fast paced.
The characters themselves are fun, and each have a unique voice that made me wish for more time with them, and makes me eager to continue reading the series. However, with the near constant interludes to characters all over the galaxy that have no real baring on the immediate storyline, the novel lost pacing at times, and I started to get slightly annoyed with the back and forth.
Ultimately this is a fun and fresh take on a modern Star Wars book, it has its detractors (people who will hate anything ‘new’ and ‘Disney’) but if you want a fun quick read, Aftermath is an enjoyable ride.
All in all I really enjoyed Aftermath and will be starting the next book in the series ‘Life Debt’ right away.

The audio book is a full scale radio play vibe with sound fx and the narrator does all the voices brilliantly
Picking up immediately after the Battle of Endor, this provides a panoramic view of events across the galactic empire, with rebels and imperials alike attempting to consolidate victories. Like Lucas' original stories intended, there's plenty of speculation on the nature of governments and political power that's relevant to our world. While not every character of import gets equally richly developed, and events do move quickly, this gets an extra star for the unabridged audio performance, which is a slam-bang affair with great voices, music and sound effects. It can get easy to lose track of the alien names and places, but the performance keeps what's important front and center as it races to a climax.
I did it! I finally finished this fuckin’ thing! Years of falling asleep to this audiobook and now IT is the one being put to bed. And to all my naysayers, people who didn’t think I could it me (me, primarily), fuck all y’all! did it!
That being said, I was pretty satisfied but not overwhelmed with the story. The production value of the audiobook is 10/10. Great reader as always and sound effects were on point.

The author made so many stupid mistakes I couldn't finish the book. I will only list one here: An imperial takes a rebel hostage and the author made an Imperial Grand Moff say something along the lines of "Is this what the Empire is reduced to? Hostage taking? The Empire must really have sunk low." *facepalm* Have you not seen the movies????
Ugh. This was pretty bad. Star Wars novels aren't exactly highbrow reading, but still. The best I can say is there were some interesting/amusing cameos (some acid-scarred Mandalorian armor is encountered; Ackbar is still worried about traps...).
The narrator of this audiobook does a wonderful job. The sound effects and attention to detail are amazing.
Characters are fun, but story left me wanting a bit. Still, enjoyed it! Will listen to the next one, too.
