'Where She Went' was a great sequel to 'If I Stay'! I loved reading from Adam's perspective, and just get into his head & his thoughts. Great book.
duologie vraiment décevante, elle est tellement hypée comme « triste » mais franchement ? c’est pas fou
Read it in practically one evening. It's more of a short story comparatively to the books I've been reading, so I read it in one sitting, glued to it, through watery eyes. It's truly a good story, but in my opinion it lacks a little something.
I LOVED this book. It did take me awhile to really get into it, but it was so good. I wanted to read it again, and was such a heart wrenching story.
I'm not sure why the author chose this direction for the book. How come Mia, who has lost her entire family, is more cheerful than a guy who experienced a breakup? Make it make sense. My dude was unable to get over his teenage love for nearly four years and had the audacity to be mad at her for doing what she needed to do to process the loss of her family. However, I found his emotional journey and thought process to be quite realistic and relatable. I understand why he felt the way he did, and I sympathised with him a lot. The happy flashbacks healed some of the damage the first book did to me. I felt that the reconciliation part was a bit rushed. Overall, the first book was way better than this one, and I believe that "If I Stay" was a standalone book with a perfect ending and didn't require a sequel. But I enjoyed it nonetheless.
I was surprised by this book. I abhorred the first book and was ready to be disappointed with this one...in some ways I was still very disappointed but I was also surprised by some of it and acknowledged as a reader that the ending is exactly what we expected it to be even if it felt pretty unoriginal.
See I was very disappointed with how we learned about Mia’s recovery. The first 60% of the book focuses on Adam. It makes him look like a paranoid, self absorbed junkie - a star that burned himself out quickly. It took so long to unravel what was really wrong with Adam that at some point I almost didn’t care. We don’t even actually hear from Mia until later on in the book. I understand the amount of devastation that these characters went through however its very politely tip toed around and only truly acknowledged emotionally by Adam. I was more upset that this book focused on Adam than anything. I mean from his career to his smoking habits and his feelings. It was centered around Adam. It wasn’t until the last 10% that the book focused on BOTH Adam and Mia.
I was pretty surprised with how things went with the band and then by how long it took Adam to actually speak his mind to Mia. It wasn’t really a pleasant surprise but more of a Really?! kind of surprised. It took all night and then a monumental melt down before Adam even felt grown up enough to ask the questions he needed answers too. Mia of course left it all alone and acted like things were totally ok o.O WHAT IS HAPPENING?!?! Their interaction felt very vague (with exception of ONE scene!) So yea...i was surprised.
There was a flashback at the end that came out of nowhere and i was pretty shocked at how quickly everything was forgiven. I can’t really say what needs to be forgiven without spoiling the book :\ It all just felt a little too easy for these two. Granted, it WASN'T easy for the both of them but the resolution was just like “welp! I guess everything is just unicorn farts and sparkling stars!” -_- NOTHING is that easy.
I don’t know. I just wasn’t satisfied at the end. I’m not sure how to explain why I was so disappointed but It sure felt like I missed a whole section of the book. I’m glad I got it off my TBR shelf but I don’t think I’d recommend this to anyone i know.

So much more than I was expecting. The album title in the book for Adam's band release says it all...Collateral Damage. The waves of impact when something tragic (from If I Stay) happens was captured so perfectly in this book. When death happens we all focus on the immediate family; I would never want to be in Mia's shoes and face the tragedy she dealt with. But how do others also impacted move on? I loved how this book showed how difficult it was for Adam and explored how he too had loss piled on loss while being expected to be happy because of the band's success. Really moving story.

Meh, it was ok. I really liked the first one because it had a romance but wasn't about the romance. This one was ALL about the romance. I also like strong male characters AND strong female characters. Mia was really the only strong one and Adam was, well, a sorry and pathetic whiner about how crappy his life was. It was an ok sequel but I think it could of been done better. I initially chose it because I loved the first and wanted to see what happened in the second.
I don't think I would use this in a classroom because I don't think there is a whole lot to get out of it. But if I were to use it, I would target it to two types of student. The first, kids who live and breathe music and second, kids who have lost dear loved ones. These are two major themes in this and the first book and so I would try focusing on that.
Sex: there is a bit of sexual themes. The guy is kind of a horn dog and sleeps with a lot of girls to get over his pathetic loss of his girlfriend.
Drugs: some drinking, not a ton though.
Language: a decent amount of language with a few f bombs.
Violence: nothing really terrible. There is a bit description of Mia after she was in her car accident.
