adventurous mysterious medium-paced

More like 3.5 stars.

These Broken Stars is told in Lilac and Tarver's alternating POVs.

The going was slow causing me to put the book down and step away several times. I think the slow pace and lack of consistent interaction is what left me feeling kind of meh towards the whole thing. There is a lot of internal dialogue which I don't always respond well to.

The idea of the book was intriguing and uniquely implemented but I had to struggle through the boring to get to the meatier, more enjoyable parts.

Things did seem to pick up towards the end as we learn exactly what's been hidden from the people and the circumstances surrounding Lilac and Tarver get more complicated.

I do plan on reading the next book, it's already on my shelf, but I'm not left with an urgency to get to it.

If I could give it 4.5 stars, I would. The only reason it's four is because I wanted more. I thoroughly enjoyed this read. It's quite unlike anything else I've read so far, the story is engaging and the characters were altogether captivating. I am looking forward to more from this world.

Overall impression:
Other than one small caveat, I thoroughly enjoyed These Broken Stars. This is a must-read for science fiction fans and an intriguing start to a new trilogy.

*sobs* this was so beautiful.. it's all I ever wanted in a book like this.. Lilac and Tarver are a lot like Kelsea and Arin from Winner's Curse.. smart and intelligent.. I love them <3

I stopped rating/reviewing things for a while but I want to be able to come back and see what I thought.

This is more like a 4.5... I was addicted the the story and couldn't put it down. The characters were somewhat unlikeable but I really enjoy the development that occured. I was actually quite scared by this book (finishing during a rainstorm at 2 am didn't help).
I do feel like the pacing could have been a bit more even throughout and it felt similiar to other sci-fi I've read, but I still really really enjoyed this.
Tarver is one of my favorite love interests I've read about recently... and I am excited to pick up the sequels!

I wish this had more space and less hiking through the jungle.
adventurous emotional hopeful slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: No

3.5 so I rounded up! I felt the ending was really rushed and I don't really have an interest to continue with the series right now so there's that.

Gorgeous. Science Fiction survival story with a dash of romance and intrigue!

16 year old Lilac, daughter of the richest man in the known world, is shocked when the 18 year old war hero Tarver approaches her as if he doesn't know who she is. They flirt but then she has to shut it down; she knows what may happen if she doesn't. But then, their huge spaceship, The Icarus, gets sucked out of hyperspace. When Tarver and Lilac appear to be the only two survivors on the increasingly strange planet nearby it takes all their courage and untapped resources to survive the environment, their emotions, and the odd whisperings around them...

This was delightfully crafted, well-paced, and stars two VERY wonderful characters who grow, evolve, fall in love and bring the reader along with them. Definitely recommend to those who enjoyed The Knife of Never Letting Go but who wanted a slightly older characters to read about and an equally intriguing mysterious planet to discover!
