This was probably the most average book I’ve ever read. And saying average would mean 3 stars but I just couldn’t put myself to type three stars. I was waiting the whole time for some sort of plot, twist or something crazy, or maybe something in the epilogue, but nothing happened. I knew what was gonna happen from the blurb essentially, I guessed the twist straight away, but I I remember saying to my friend, when I said what I thought the twist would be. I said to him oh, surely that won’t happen because that’s just too predictable and then it did happen. There is no twists in this book. Well there is but I knew they were going to happen. basically page 100 onwards and I prefer in thrillers to have a sort of big tension buildup and then in the last 30% of the book to then be hit with twist, twist twist. The writing was good I liked the pace and I did like the style. I thought it was easy to read and I did find some of it interesting and it was quite emotional because the story is quite dark at times, especially the epilogue I got teary-eyed from that, there’s not really much more to say, it’s very disappointing how predictable and sort of boring it is.

Laurel lost her daughter Ellie and it’s now been almost a decade with no leads. Laurel feels hopeless and has lived her life on auto pilot ever since. Cue Floyd coming into the picture with his bizarre daughter Poppy and teaching Laurel to be open to a new relationship. The story is told from 4 POV’s, but only 2 are in first person which was unique. Predictable at times & I couldn’t clearly picture the characters in my head just by the given descriptions until almost the end.

Overall a 5 star read, because when I had it in hand I couldn’t put it down.

Predictable, slow paced, and tedious. The main mystery is given away right at the beginning, so the rest just felt like I was being forced to follow characters I don't care about. I didn't care about the dates and the teenage like love plot. I really just wanted this sad but boring story to be over

Continuing my obsession with Jewell. This was one of the sadder books I’ve read — thrilling still at times, but overall, I felt so much sadness for these characters as the circumstances of events were revealed.
