A very simple but beautiful story about, not just old age, but also the importance of love and finding family in your community. Ove and Sanjya have a sweet love story, and the relationships built really warmed my heart. I felt his grief and struggle to keep up in a world that moved too fast. There were a couple classic Backman misdirection-emotional punches which didn't land as well as I would've liked and the story took a second to find its footing, but other than that I have no major critiques. A sweet story that fills me with hope and made me cry a lot.

The flow of the narrative always kept you on your toes, as it jumped around different times in Ove’s life. The explanation  of his character and morals were revealed at the perfect times and he was very well fleshed out. The large cast was less detailed than I would’ve liked, but overall, I really enjoyed this book

I really liked how just like Ove was evolving as the story went on, this book crept up on me, and I grew really attached to all these colourful characters. It made me cry several times, and I understand why people love it so much.

However, I was taken aback by all the suicidal thoughts, I didn't expect that at all and never saw anyone talk about it for some reason. I also found the portrayal of the cat to be way too far-fetched for it to be believable, so it pulled me out of the book aa few times. Still, it was an enjoyable read and I get why people are attached to this story.

This was a really beautiful book. I laughed, rolled my eyes, and bawled my eyes out.
You truly never know why a person is the way they are if you don't know their story.
I don't think I'll ever stop recommending this book. Ove will always have a special place in my heart ❤️
