I don’t know what to make of this book. I think it’s a bit confusing because of how much it talks about aeroplanes. I think it was an interesting thought experiment and interesting take on religion.
My father's best friend gifted me this as a high school graduation present. He said, "This book changed my worldview significantly. I hope it can do the same for you."
While not life altering to me personally, I can see how it was to Hank as well as many other readers. Illusions nudges the reader to reevaluate what they believe while avoiding the tendency toward radical skepticism often found in "question everything" type of stories along with providing no solid answers or fixes to the questions the reader forms, a frequent folly of fiction aiming to introduce new perspectives.

This was an interesting book and it had some interesting points. I'd never heard of the book until it was suggested by a friend. Has an interesting perspective but I would recommend the book, it's a quick read as well

I read Jonathan Livingstone Seagull so long ago that I don't even remember anything about it except that my idealistic young self loved it. I've had this secondhand store find on my shelf for a few years and finally decided to read it. I think in my 20s I would have been all starry eyed about it, but the older, wiser me just thought "meh". It's kind of entertaining, and it has that little bit of mystery (did it really happen or is it just a fantasy?) but I'm kind of over the whole "everything is an illusion" school of thinking. Nice effort, but I'm happy to pass this book on now/tick it off my list and not wonder anymore.
Reading it first, I was not quite sure if I understood it. I was a bit closed off at first, though the first chapter enraptured me. But then I felt distanced from the book, oddly enough; however, I decided to finish it because I knew that I was still in love with the diction and the lessons being taught -even though some were too obscure to understand. Once I got back into the groove, I finished half the book in one sitting -given introspection time- and I finished the book with a deeper understanding of what I've always believed: this life is a route defined by our thoughts, our choices, our circumstances, and us. This book is definitely worth a read.
Rating: 4.5, since halves can't be given I rounded down.

"If you will practice being fictional for a while, you will understand that fictional characters are sometimes more real than people with bodies and heartbeats."
"Live never to be ashamed if anything you do or say is published around the world -- even if what is published is not true."
An eh-ish book. Interesting ideas, but not glorious or life-changing whatsoever. All it really did was make me want to learn to fly a plane.
