This was entertaining. I was a bit worried that the characters would be overdone, but Emerson's eccentricities (aside from all the exotic animals) actually seemed mostly plausible. The action was good and kept me turning pages. There wasn't as much of a love story but it wasn't totally absent either. Moon is a professional that just started working for a large financial firm and is assigned to meet with one of the most eccentric clients (Emerson Knight) in her first week. She ends up running from dangerous people while searching for the truth about the world's gold supply. It offered a nice tongue in cheek look at conspiracy theorists as well. I will definitely check out the next in this series.

Enjoyable, but farfetched in so much as plot. I might try the next because the characters are cute. Maybe the next plot line will be more believable.

Disappointing read for me. I love her Stephanie Plum series but this one the characters just came off as dumb and unrealistic

Summer reading gold...

I enjoyed reading Curious Minds and I had trouble putting it down. Funny and pretty darn interesting for a read on the lighter side. This will really get you thinking about Gold and monetary systems while keeping things light and funny. This was my first Evanovich, and I would definitely read another. I've had One for the Money tucked away for awhile, so I'll be getting to that a little later this Summer. My only complaint would be this is a little too light and glossy, but that's what I was looking for and serves as a really enjoyable pallate cleanser. Fantastic Summer read, really.

Something new, at least for me, from Janet Evanovich! I like the chemistry between Knight and Moon. The first book made we want to read more! Not at all like the Stephanie Plum series, which is good.

My mom loves Janet Evanovich and recommended this book. As my first foray into Evanovich's writing, I was underwhelmed. The characters were bland archetypes: wealthy autism-spectrum eccentric partners with Harvard-educated (this was repeated with fervor to compensate for the character's unremarkable contributions to the story) Texas girl. They uncovered a plot of corruption, previously unobserved, that ascended to the highest levels of government. Suuurrreee. As much as I enjoy the easy escapism of cozy mysteries, I merely found this to be an adequate representation of the genre.

While the plot was interesting, I was very disappointed in the characters. It seems that Evanovich has only one female lead character, she just changes the name to got the series, and while the quips are cute and it's an easy read, I found myself hoping for the end. All surface and no substance.
