I have finished the series! And oh what an ending! Bright Steel continued on from the brilliance of the previous two instalments of Maters and Mages, and then wrapped up in a great manner.

Aranthur still cries about beyblading his enemies, but a bit less in this one lol.
I enjoyed the single point of view a lot, after reading a lot of fantasy with 2 or more.
A short and entertaining series that ended really well.

This was a solid conclusion to a great trilogy from Cameron. While it doesn't live up to the Traitor Son series, it's still a great read.
I will say, that this might have been a five star book if I hadn't waited so long to read it. I had trouble picking up where the first two books left off. I plan on being better in 2025 about reading series in full whenever possible.
If you haven't read Cameron before, I would say start with The Red Knight, although that series is five books and this one is just a trilogy.
If Cameron keeps writing, I'll keep reading.

Phenomenal end?? To a phenomenal story. I fell in love with the world, the characters, all of it from the get go. And I'm so grateful to have a satisfying ending!
Very solid. Given that the last book was one giant battle, I appreciated a more human ending to this one even if anticlimactic.

The brilliant conclusion to a brilliant series; Bright Steel brings it all home, and while I'm sad to say goodbye to my favourite series of the past few years, I couldn't argue with such an emotionally satisfying ending that keeps the intrigue going to the very last.
This book brings back so much of what I loved in the first book; the beautiful city building, the spying, the evolving and complex magical system, but ties in the chaotic and political elements of the second book. The cities feel alive with anxiety and full of energy as politics clash with the end of the world.

A solid 3.5. The world building is great, though, a lot is directly taken from Earth around modern Istanbul. The magic system both over- and under explained.
The MC is too OP by the end. Not in direct power per se, though he's grown an insane amount in the year the books last, but in terms of figuring out everything. The other characters and especially their interactions are great.
The pacing is an issue throughout and while the ending is as it should be in terms of plot and characters, it's just way too short.
There are multiple references to Roman (both Western and Eastern) history, several leaps into classic Philosophy, an intro to the psychological effects of warfare, and general ideas about government and leadership roles. All well done but it also seemed thrown in at times just to impress the reader. We got it from the first book. The author is an intelligent person. I'm still not a fan of the writing style.
