I wish that I could have read this book sooner, at least during my four-year university time.

After reading the books "Deep work" and "Digital Minimalism', I did collect some great lessons, which pushed me to read another book from Cal Newport.

In short, this book is short, succinct, and truly practical. This book offers 75 study hacks, and I have applied 63 of them! I would recommend this book to anyone who will enter college and endeavor to achieve success. Here are some really wonderful tips that I could share with you (and it truly helps me):
1. Create a Sunday ritual
2. Create a study system + Quiz-n-call method
3. Work on a Grand Project
4. Spend time taking an exchange program
5. Seek out phenomenon learners.

However, there are 5 points that I do not totally agree with the author:
1. Never Nap
2. Don't study in your room (As a minimalist, I would like to study in my personally designed room)
3. Don't study in a group (As a team leader, sometimes teamwork does not work. But sometimes it turned out to be wonderful. I mean, it quite depends).
4. Don't get a normal job (I found that quite controversial)
5. Don't network

Besides, if Cal Newport has second thoughts about releasing a new version of his book, here are 3 new approaches that I think gonna help him out:

1 - Putting the book's content into 3 stages: Pre-study, During-study, Post-study.
2 - Diving the book into 2 sections: Work/Study - Life
3 - Include more about productivity tips/study methods/memorization methods/...

3.5-4. I’m neither american nor a huge fan of the ”productivity / rise & grind” movement but there are certainly some good tips & tricks which i’ll definitely go back to if i’m ever overwhelmed at uni :)

Oh, I did enjoy this book.

Like Cal's other books, I enjoyed his easy writing style and humour. There are many, many sticky tabs in this book and I look forward to revisiting them and implementing them into my life.

I really appreciated how Cal breaks down the 'Rules' into several different examples depending on how it can be applicable to your degree.

Another gorgeous book, I am glad to have picked up!

Just being thorough on Cal Newport through audiobooks. Pretty much his standard recommendations, but for undergraduates specifically. Systematize everything.

I'm going to start college in a short while, so I decided to read this book. In all honesty, I've always been the student that never reviews anything and only studies one day before my tests. That has worked 99% of the time, giving me good grades, but I know that it won't fly in college. That's where this book comes in.
Some stuff seems obvious and comes down to "Give yourself enough time to do a good job and don't pull all-nighters", but the author gave a lot of step-by-step explanations that seem useful.
The book was short and easy to read. Can't really comment on its merits, but I think it might help me.

I read this right after graduating high school, and this book really got me excited to go to college. It is cleverly written and a quick yet informative read, and Newport explains the often-empirical reasoning behind his assertions. However, what leaves this at 4 stars for me instead of 5 is the tone it took sometimes. For example, the tips sometimes focus on "ticking the box" of what one "should" do while in college, such as eating... The tone became a little shallow and mechanical when it strayed from emphasizing that students should pursue what they love with all they have, as it does in the beginning. Food is a bit more than fuel; students shouldn't be automatons briefly shoveling some organic nutrients down before returning to their computations. In my opinion, it's those little comforts that can help students keep their heads above water emotionally.

How I wished I read this before going to college. Now I am in my 30s and I actually read this first to see if this is worth gifting to my cousins who are currently in college. Some tips are practical and common sense, some are quite pushing the competitive nature narrative of college life but I guess students even if they are outside of America will still find the snippets in here very much applicable to every facet of their college life.

Since I am working on my postgraduate application, this book somewhat shifted my perspective and I am so pumped up to just send that application out.
