I originally gravitated towards this book because of the sapphic, witchy, dark academia premise and the promise of a good mystery--what really happened to those girls all those years ago in seemingly unfathomable murders? There's the possibility that our main character, Felicity, has good reason to take this occult stuff seriously when she and her ex-girlfriend Alex may have summoned "something" more real than a party trick? And what about Ellis? A teenage author prodigy who's chosen this particular school and this particular ghost story to latch onto for her new book--will she help Felicity through whatever's been haunting her before the past catches up with her?
Ultimately, the execution felt lacking.
I had trouble truly connecting with any of the characters, the plot became a bit convoluted and the motives shaky, and the mystery I thought I'd signed up for just stayed on the back burner the entire time without any real answers. The romance also left me wanting more, and I wanted Felicity to have someone genuinely help her through her past, not take Ellis's approach.
I also agree with some other reviews I've read after the fact that the POC characters felt like they were only placed in the story to address the systemic racism within a mostly white environment, and the issues surrounding women's mental health could have been addressed with more care.
I feel like I read a different story than the one I thought I was getting, in the end.

something about the way they all spoke was just a little too off for me to not be confused about accent/setting but disregarding that I would be obsessed with this as a movie
Espero que disfrutéis de esta novela tan chula tanto como yo disfruté del proceso de traducción

I have mixed feelings about this book. I did not like the main character, the story follows a girl who is very unsettled and judged but then inflicts so much violence herself. I wasn’t shocked by the ending because it was so quick and I wasn’t really attached to the characters. But I ultimately rated it 4 stars because I’m thinking about reading it again.
