Though dry for me in parts, I thought it provided a great history on each of the mother's lives and how that impacted the way MLK Jr., Malcolm X, and James Baldwin lead in the civil rights movement. The conclusion was ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I wish there was more!

Anna Malaika Tubbs did a great job with the scarce information she had available about the lives of Alberta, Berdis, and Louise, the mothers of three of the most well-known Black men in American history. But goodness, do I wish there was more biographical information to be found. There's nothing like firsthand accounts. But an overall enlightening book, and hopefully just the start to tell Black women's and Black mothers' stories in all their hardship and wonder.

I learned a lot from this book and it was very interesting. I really liked the format the author chose and I feel like it complimented the book really well. I also liked how the author discussed what made her write this, and then touch back on those points as things happened in the retelling. This really gave me an insight on how society views mothers compared to fathers, and I feel like this book accomplished most of what it tried to.
