Heartbreaking

I can’t decide if this is my favorite book in the series or not. I loved this story and I loved that Brooks isn’t a bad boy or a mean boy like the first two element books. This book focuses on so many deep themes and as always, Cherry does it beautifully.

I can’t get this book out of my head. I keep reflecting on the characters, the emotion of the storyline, and the growth the characters experienced throughout the novel. I loved “aging” with the characters. This is something I wish more authors would incorporate in their novels, by allowing characters and readers to come full circle together within the pages of the story.

Maggie is a cheeky little girl, ecstatic about planning her “wedding” with her brother’s friend, Brooks. When Brooks shows up late to their wedding rehearsal in the woods, Maggie heads off to look in another location for him when she comes across an unfortunate scene, which leaves her a shell of the child she once was. When Brooks finds Maggie, he thinks he is the cause of the horror she faces and decides to never leave her side, making a promise to be her friend and love her forever.

The story is divided into three parts, when the kids are 10, then 18, and 10 years later at 28 years old. I found the middle section of the novel dragged slightly with little developments until the very end. However, the end of the story sucked me in and didn’t let me go. I’m still reeling and emotionally touched by this beautiful novel days later.

As someone who hates spoilers or knowing too much about a book, I don’t want to give too many details away. I feel like books are enjoyed in the way they were meant to be when the reader knows less information. This book is about overcoming deep hurts from past events. We sometimes don’t realize how much past traumas can continue to hurt us, if we refuse to confront them head on. Maggie did the best should could with overcoming her circumstances, but kept being dragged back to the day in the woods by people’s perceptions of her. With the help of Brooks and several years, Maggie was able to find her inner strength and move on to a better life.

One of my favorite aspects of this book was Maggie’s infatuation with literature herself! What could be better for a bibliophile than books within the book being read? The characters use the books to communicate their thoughts and feelings with each other, something I enjoy doing with those closest to me. To truly get to know someone is to understand the reasons behind their love for certain novels. It can form a deeper understanding and connection between people that would never have had the chance to blossom before.

This truly was a beautifully crafted story of love and redemption, that all lovers of this genre would surely enjoy. I highly recommend diving into The Silent Waters.

this was book was SO cute omg !! i love maggie and brooks and their whole relationship was so healthy. i like the heal the author wrote illness and healing. the book was paced perfectly and i like the ending. i shed a little bit of tears here and there LMAO but it was worth it

DON’T JUDGE THIS BOOK BY IT’S COVER. I mean the guy is hot for sure, but book covers that look like this are typically a pass for me.

The content of this book is beautiful, the writing has an ease about it that made me fly through the story. The main female character is mute which put such an interesting spin on things. Dual POV is a winner for me because I love seeing the overall picture of a story. I found myself crying three times, which is rare for me, but I was moved by so much in this book.

What an emotional knockout!

This series is a great one. I like the idea of them all being stand alone but having a central theme group them together. Even though again they are separate from each other I feel that you, the reader, should still go in order to enjoy how the writing just continues to get better each time.

Now on to the review of the actual book..
This book had me engrossed the entire time. I was a bit skeptical at first during part one because unless it is just for background purposes I do not like an overextended children's story. Fear not each part is exactly the right amount of everything!

I had tears coming down my face one moment.

Then the next a curse word was flying out because I was frustrated as if I were one of the characters myself. No photo no.gif

However the love between these two is something entirely in its own league.
-“Maggie May,” Brooks whispered, his voice cracking. “How did you do that? How did you break my heart and fix it all at once, with just one kiss?”

And with that I leave you read this book yourself and enjoy all the emotions it provokes out of you.

It took me a minute to get into this book, but once I did, I couldn't put it down. Not joking. I stayed up all night and only went to bed because I couldn't keep my eyes open. Woke up before my alarm already thinking about this book and picked it up again to read at 5am!

I can't even put my finger on why I couldn't put it down. I wasn't ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT with suspense. I wasn't ANXIOUS to know what happens next. It was just enough of "what will happen" + "I'm in love with these people"

Brittainy has such a beautiful author voice. Every book I read from her is like a song. Beautiful and captivating. Captivating. That is the perfect word for this book.

Maggie & Brooks are just two of the most beautiful souls and to be able to go on their journey with them was a privilege.
