Carly Phillips never disappoints. I hadn't read anything by Erika Wilde. That will be rectified and soon. Samantha was born with a silver spoon. Samantha was being molded into the perfect further wife for a CEO. Samantha heard her father talking about her like she was a commodity and fled. It wasn't long before she ditched her car and phone, beginning a new life. It wasn't long before her father closed all of her accounts.
Samantha is drowning her sorrows at Kincaid's, a bar on the seedy side of town. Clay, the owner, is watching over her, keeping her safe. When he learns of her situation, instead of using her, he took care of her--putting a roof over her head, putting clothes on her back, and giving her a job. Then he avoided her, okay he tried to avoid her.
Clay wants nothing to do with love. He is a hit it and quit it kind of guy. Samantha has always been demure. But now she knows what she wants, and his name is Clay. The heat between them is off the charts. Dirty Sexy Saint is a steamy romance with twist. Declarations of love were made in actions and not words. Super sigh worthy. Super romantic. Dirty Sexy Saint is a great beginning to the Dirty Sexy Series.

So, this is my first romance novel. Honestly, I was on Hoopla at work, went to the list of the top audiobooks looking for something to listen to and this came up. I thought for sure it was going to be comical and cliche more than anything... In some regards it is; the billionaire heiress leaves the lap of luxury to go slum it with a millionaire bar owner. On the other hand, the sex scenes were well written.

Even though the ending is a bit obvious and the climax of the story was kind of a bullshit mcguffin, it did have a whimsical epilogue, and earns 4 stars from me for keeping the story engaging enough for to make it to the end. I didn't go into this expecting Tolstoy, so I wasn't disappointed, and it helped me get through some tedious reports and spreadsheets.

3.5 stars
As a fan of both Carly Philips and Erika Wilde, I was excited to read Dirty Sexy Saint, a USA Today bestseller. The premise sounded right up my alley, so when I saw it was on audible, I grabbed it. Ok, honestly, I don't think I really ever read the blurb. But with those two authors and that title, how can I not click?

While the narrator's voice was OK for the female, when she did the male parts, I couldn't stand it. But I got over that and still got into the hot little story.

Samantha Jamieson is basically a spoiled little rich girl. She has been dating a guy for a while but doesn't feel very strongly about him and is about to break up with him, when she overhears her father talking to him about marrying her so he can take over the family business. When Samantha realizes she is being forced into an arranged marriage at 26, she leaves with nothing more than the clothes on her back.

She proceeds to the other side of town where she goes into a bar, Kincaids, and orders every dirty drink possible. Soon she is drunk, broke and had no place to go. That's where "Saint Clay" steps in. Clay is the gorgeous owner of the bar, and he has a habit of taking in strays. After she puked all over her fancy clothes, Clay took care of her and put her to bed in his bed like a gentleman. With no other real choice for a good guy, and thinking she would run home to daddy by the end of her shift, Clay offered her a job waitressing. Surprisingly, she turned out to be a hard worker who is much more down to earth than expected from her upbringing.

Samantha wants the gorgeously tattooed Clay. Clay wants Samantha, but he doesn't want to dirty up her fancy innocence. But she lets him know she wants it...
"You’re playing with the hottest kind of fire there is, Cupcake.”

He held off as much as he could.
"I don't want to be a good girl anymore. I want to be very bad with you, Saint Clay."
"I'm not a saint, Cupcake. Especially when it comes to fucking."
"That's good, because I don't really want a saint...I want a sinner."
If she wanted a sinner, well, sinning was what he did best.

That's what she needed. Not someone who was afraid to get dirty during sex. She wanted dirty...Clay will give it to her.
"I don’t do soft and gentle and sweet. I like to control and fuck so hard and deep you’ll scream and be sore the next day. I’d want you on your knees, with my hands fisted in your hair while you suck my cock, and then I’d bend you over this table, spread your legs wide, and fuck you all over again.”

The chemistry and connection between the couple, and the ease that she fit into his life was amazing. But when secrets threaten, and her past wealthy life comes in to play, and his past threatens to destroy everything, can the rich girl and the guy from the other side of the tracks make it?
"He left no part of her untouched. Physically, he owned her. Emotionally, he felt so right, so much a part of her. So inevitable.”

Likes:

  • •A fun, sexy, quick easy read.

  • •Totally hot.

  • •I loved all of the side characters and I really want to read about Clay's two brothers.

  • •Clay was the perfect mix of hot, alpha, and sweet.

  • •I loved that Samantha didn't turn out to be a spoiled rich girl, I really liked her.

  • •I'd love to read about Katrina.

Dislikes:

  • •3rd person from both the male and female POV.

  • •I hated when the narrator did her Clay voice.

  • •Some of the sexual terms used were awful: "weeping flesh"? Um no. And 'pearl of flesh nestled in her folds", please, no!

The Down & Dirty:

There was so much to love about Dirty Sexy Saint. I loved the characters, the sex was hot, Clay was awesome. It had a great mix of heat, humor, heart and banter that I enjoyed. But the 3rd person dual POV made me feel detached from the story. It may not have been as bad if I read it vs. listening, but it just never fully grabbed me into the story. That, plus the narrator trying to sound like a man (badly) when Clay is speaking, and some of the sexual terms like "weeping flesh", brought down what could have been an amazing read from authors that I really have enjoyed in the past. In this case, I would recommend reading over listening.

Rating: 3.5 stars, 4.25 Heat, 3 narration

This was everything I hoped it would be. Clay and Samantha were fun characters to read about. I loved that they spent their time working at his bar and he encouraged her to pursue her dreams. Katrina was a great friend to Samantha as she learned to live amongst regular people. The steamy scenes were just right and didn’t over power the story. There weren’t too many characters to keep track of and with 3 brothers and a bar full of coworkers it easily could have become too much. I totally enjoyed this story and the dirty talk was done just right. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. 🧁
