The Frog Princess

Fun twist on a classic fairytale set up.

I loved this book as a kid and it holds up fairly well on re-read. The setting is entertaining and the protagonist has a plucky, practical attitude that is fun to read. I will say that the romance was much weaker than I remember and it feels like it could have been improved easily.

Recommended for middle-grade readers.

the frog princess was one of my favorite books as a kid, so it slightly pains me to read it now and not feel the same admiration for it as i used to. still an entertaining, funny, and lighthearted tale, but just not for me anymore.

Not my favorite fairy tale retelling, but it would be a fun read for kids. I thought that the fact that one of the main "negative" characteristics of Prince Jorge was that he liked to wear women's shoes didn't really send a great message of acceptance to kids that might be reading the book.

A cute, fun read. I needed to read a retold fairy tale for my online book challenge and this was my pick. I could read more of these, but I prefer my mysteries and spy type novels. Recommended.

This was a reread for me. I just bought the rest of the series, so I needed to catch back up to where I had stopped. This is 100% a children's book. The whole time I read this book I remembered how much I loved it as a child, but at the same time it isn't super well written. Hopefully the rest of the series picks up a little bit more.

What's not to love? This book has it all. Witch curses, spells gone wrong, clumsy princesses, and snarky princes.

This book can be a little cheesy at times but even at its cheesiest I love it every time I read it. It provides a unique point of view on an old tale. It makes me laugh and smile and that is all I really ask of it. It sets up a really cute story that easily worms it's way into your heart.

This book was really sweet and a fun, creative fairy tale. The characters were very likable and the story had some adventure as well as unexpected twists and turns.

Alright, story time: so when I saw the summary and read the first few chapters of this book I was very unimpressed. I thought the author had copied the Disney movie (one of my favorites) and I thought it was unoriginal. PSYCH, my friend told me that the movie was inspired by the book. I looked at the copyright page and lo and behold, it had been published before the movie came out. My respect for the author went up tenfold because I realized it was a genius idea. Baker's writing is very lyrical, descriptive, something I can get lost in. The plot was good, but I knew a lot of what was going to happen because - well, we all know the story. Despite that, I found myself really enjoying the story. It was fun. But... something was off about it? The characters were fun, but I felt like it needed... more. Of something. And I didn't l Eadric. I loved Emma, I loved Grassina, I loved pretty much everyone, but not Eadric. He was just... I don't know. Something about him had me hoping she'd find someone else. And their romance just kinda popped out of nowhere. I wish it had built more. That being said, a really lovely story. Emma was fun to follow, she was quirky and strong and flawed at once, and I really liked the way she grew throughout the story. Overall a very excellent read that I enjoyed.
