By chance

it was a good read! I must say but I don't think ill read the rest of the series if I must be honest for one the prices are crazy for a contemporary romance that is only one hundred and some odd pages but you can tell there is a lot of drama with the series ahead.. I got thru the book and it was cute so yea

This book was available free on Amazon and is the first book in a series that also includes some m/m/f. This particular story is set in the college days of Eric, son of a business tycoon and Nick, football jock. Forced to room together, this is a fairly typical story of gay boy falling for straight roommate who then fears coming out. Adding a level of complexity is Nick's relationship with his ex-girlfriend Ally and Eric's parental issues.
A good quick read.

By Chance is the first book in Cat Grant’s Courtland Chronicles series. It is a sweet and sexy romance between two college roommates, wealthy Eric Courtland and football player Nick Thompson. It is a quick read that provides readers an intriguing introduction to what promises to be a fascinating series. To read my review in its entirety, please click HERE.

I don't think i fully grasp what i was getting into when i downloaded this book - it was free so of course i took a chance- I wanted a quick read and had not intended to be absolutely captivated by the story and the characters I LOVED Eric and Nick and i'm looking forward to see where there story goes from here. I was not a fan of Ally but hey i well keep an open mind.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the series and for my first M/M (I'm use to reading the darker stuff in yaoi Mangas) it was a great introduction.

Happy Reading!

I have to admit that there were aspects to this story that didn't jive with my idea of what a romance novella is or should be and yet they felt true and necessary within the confines of this story. This story - and the relationship between our two MCs - is messy. Which, come to think of it, wasn't >i>everyone's college experience a hot mess of irrational decisions, hormones, self-discovery, and occasionally a little regression before the inevitable personal growth?

I think it's worth reading the next in the series. I'm interested in seeing what happens to these two after college.

Many would think Eric Courtland has led a charmed life. After all, his family's wealth has helped him to eliminate obstacles and get the things he wants (including a single room even though it's not entirely in line with policy). But getting the things you want doesn't mean you'll be happy as he can see firsthand in his mother and the way she is treated by his father. And he prefers to keep people at arm's length for that very reason. But everything changes when he has a roommate forced upon him despite his objections. And to make it worse, the new roommate just happens to be attractive (albeit straight) athlete, Nick. But just as Eric is forced out of his comfort zone by having to share his living space with someone, the arrangement serves to force Nick to examine himself and who he is at the same time.

This is the first novel by Cat Grant that I've read, and I'm really quite impressed with her storytelling. The way she developed these two characters and their journey through this book was both realistic and interesting. I certainly look forward to reading more of this series and more from this author.

Enjoyed reading this a lot. Real-life story about to boys, emotional scars, hiding and making piece with oneself. This story is the first part of a longer series following the lives of both main characters over a two decade span. Can't wait to continue reading the story.

This is a very enjoyable romance, and I gotta say, I'm really looking forward to seeing how this relationship develops further in the series. Eric is a hard character to like at times, and yet Cat Grant always makes him empathetic. Nick is just a sweetie, if a bit of a dense one. And dear friend Ally, who pushes them to be honest with each other. Well, I know I'm going to see her get her HEA too, later in the series. *winks* I do love that Cat Grant tackles sexualities and genders that aren't always popular in the romance genre, so I'm definitely continuing this series.

Chronologically, the first in The Courtland Chronicles, but I believe not the first written. This book ably sets us up with the three protagonists for the series, and is set at college in New York.
Eric initially comes over as a prick - rude, entitled, full of his own self import, cold and emotionless.
Nick is styled as a typical jock boy - untidy, bit hale fellow well met type.
As their friendship then relationship grows, we see why they are like they are and Ally, an old girlfriend of Nicks, becomes friend and catalyst for them. In particular, as Eric's background becomes more clear, my sympathy went to the mixed up kid he has been made into.
Their immaturity and Eric's conditioning to retreat internally from hurt means that they do have their troubles to overcome.
I can imagine that this will be a theme, with Eric constantly having to battle his demons. An interesting start to a series.
