My other weeb friend let me read this in return for lending her [b:Fruits Basket, Vol. 1|271199|Fruits Basket, Vol. 1|Natsuki Takaya|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1442161482l/271199._SX50_.jpg|542633] and I feel that I got conned! (Also how did we get away with reading these in high school?!)

Like, I find the premise amusing (whoops I bought a sex doll boyfriend off the internet and broke it so now I have to teach it to human or I will be in crippling debt) and I did sort of like it back when I read it but...MAJOR ICK! Like why/how was it allowed?! I mean we know why/how but...WHY/HOW?!

If I were re-writing this, I'd be making everyone adults straight off the bat. You know why. And I'd get rid of the love triangle (but that's because I'm sick of them JUST COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER!!!!)

But yeah...it's of its time...

This was fun. I like the boys and that the main girl takes some initiative. Hope she gets more friends

Absolute Boyfriend/Zettai Kareshi reads like a shojo fan's perfect adolescent fantasy. A knock on your door, a giant box waiting to be opened, and what's inside? A drop-dead gorgeous young man, tailored to your specifications and fancies, whose number one purpose in his artificial life is to please one person and one person only: you. But Riko, Yuu Watase's main protagonist, wants nothing to do with the world of private fantasy lovers. And yet here she is, stuck with a young man who keeps offering to have sex with her. What's a girl like Riko to do?

So I don't usually read Manga but this cover caught my eye and so I decided to see what all of the fuss is about. It was cute in a slightly disturbing way. The "mail order robot" keeps wanting to have sex with his teenage owner. Anyway I think I'll read the others. Now I'm curious about how things will turn out.

I do love Yuu Watase, but this wasn't really for me. Although I will admit I am curious about a lot of the mysterious bits, overall I doubt I'll keep reading this series.

The concept was somewhat interesting (though concerning such a product was sold to a HS girl), however I wasn't entertained by this at all. I appreciated that Night is leagues above 99% of male characters in shoujo by not being the kind of guy that sexually assaults his love interest. Sucks that the bar is in hell, but it's disheartening to see how many of these stories involve men hitting on underage girls or not taking "no" for an answer.

The FL is very uninteresting. I acknowledge that the HS girl desperate for boobs and a boyfriend will never be something I've related to. Even as a teenager, I never cared about that sort of thing. However, unlike female leads in other shoujos, this character had nothing else going on for her. She wasn't smart, a good friend, brave or funny. Her only goals in life were having a boyfriend. She doesn't even seem to have any female friends. Why would I root for her?

Night, the fake boy, is the most interesting character and that's quite sad considering. I don't have any interest in continuing this series.
