Let’s be honest—I was always going to love this book. Listening to Sam’s accent for nearly eight hours was an absolute treat, but mostly because I could feel his earnestness in every word. He just seems like such a genuine, accessible person. I wish him every continued success in his career.
Do yourself a favor and listen to the audiobook. It includes the audio recordings Sam took while documenting his hike, his many asides, his hammed up Scottish brogue, and his self critical attempt at other accents.
Listened to the audio, and loved it. Makes me want to go to Scotland even more now.
This hit my sweet spot- I love a book about a transformative hikes, a good autobiography and a charming audio narration. So much fun to listen to!

I love the Outlander books and started watching the show. And though Sam isn't what in envisioned as Jamie, I love his character and warmed up to him.
The book flips between his journey as an actor and journey along the Highland Way, a famous hiking trail in Scotland. I love hiking and camping and outdoors and totally could identify on those parts. I found his story really interesting, his ups and downs and continued perseverance to his goals.
The way he writes is very sit down and story like which I love esp when people are talking about themselves.

I’m convinced the only way to consume this story is to listen to Sam tell it himself through the audiobook. He brings the pages to life and injects so much personality into the book.
I also need him to start narrating/reading more audiobooks stat. His accents, tone, sound effects, and everything else really make it feel like a play inside your head.
But back to his book - I loved the blend of his physical and figurative journey as he tells us stories from his life as well as his hike. An amazing read!

While I am clearly going through an Outlander obsessed phase in my life, I thought it fitting to listen to @samheughan ‘s recently published memoir as I finish up the series.
Heughan narrates his trek hiking 96 miles of the West Highland Way, while weaving in moments from his life that shaped him. It was almost poetic and philosophical. You want to like the person that plays a character you’re in love with, but you don’t expect an actor to be so dorky (in the best sense), loyal, humble, and…well…human. Also, props to him, because anything that gets my four year old to sit quietly in the car deserves all the awards.
