I chose to listen to this book due to it being yard work season. I hadn’t realized that Heughan would be reading the book himself, so that was a nice surprise.
I enjoyed listening to the story mostly due to the fact of how he read this. With the way it was done. Was as if you were sitting at a bar listening to a story from the person across the table.
I did find the story a little confusing at first. Mostly because of the time jumping. I personally struggle with time jumps if it isn't written out for me that we’ve changed times. Half way through the book it became easier to notice the changes.
One of the things I enjoyed about the story was that it didn’t really speak of “Outlander”. Now don’t get me wrong. We all know I’m a big “Outlander” fan. But I was looking for something that would allow us a look at the person not a character. Which is what we got.
Although I deeply enjoy the story. It left me feeling sad yet hopeful. Having grown up in an area where it was not uncommon to see someone famous. I had learned that most become lonely. This is something we take away from Heughan’s story. But yet he shares how he is living the best he can, and continues to look for the happiness that comes with everyday life.
Now as my drink of choice, being Whiskey. I was really happy to hear a little about it. In the end. Getting to hear about how the whiskey was brought into the world has made me want to try it more. Word of advice, the description is within the last chapter. And the way Heughan describes it, will make you want a glass.
All in all I’m rating this an 7/10. It was a good read, and I look forward to reading more if he ever writes another book.

I listened to the audio version because Sam could read the phone book to me (if you are old enough to remember what those were). I enjoyed his adventurous account of his trip along Scotland’s West Highland Way but what makes this memoir excellent is his account of his personal life journey as well. Heughan weaves between both narratives, and while it can be a bit jarring at times, it does give his readers a glimpse into his front-facing life as well as who he really is as a person. I suspect that while his readers have learned a little more about him besides being that guy who plays Jamie on Outlander, he also seems to have learned some things about himself along the way too. Slainte!

The only way to read this book is with the audiobook. It was exceptional.

I have read a couple biographies now and this one is by far my favorite. He does a great job of mixing in the hiking portion and relating it to his journey of becoming an actor. Relaxing and enjoyable all the way thru.
