Prolly not gonna read a book in the middle of a series that I've never read before ever again tbh

I wanted to really liked this book because I love the rest of the series but it just didn't hold up which is disappointing. I feel like Karin spent too much time in the past with the Jeffrey flashbacks especially they weren't moving the storyline further. I think if it stayed mostly in the present and focused on that part it would've been more successful. I also found the twist really predictable which made the book feel even more flat. I hope the next installment is better especially with the loose ends she left.

3.5 stars. Gritty and graphic most certainly. Slaughter wrote a good one, I will say, for me, maybe a little too graphic. Characters were well written, parts of the plot felt built up and then brought to quickly to resolution while other areas such as the graphic nature of crimes and behaviors were overly written and specific. I enjoyed the read, and will even read her again I am sure!

Karin Slaughter can do no wrong. Well.. she can be a bit graphic, like really graphic. In fact I got a little squeamish during some of the scenes in this book. But that’s what makes her a fantastic writer. I do love the Will Trent series and recommend it to anyone looking for a good series.

This book is my very first Karen Slaughter and I have to say that I will definitely be reading more of her books. Apparently, this book is the continuation of a series. One I knew nothing about and now I am desperate to start at the beginning. So if you are a fan of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) series, you might want to pick this one up.
Today!

A woman is brutally attacked and left for dead and Will Trent and the lovely Sara Linton are on the case. It turns out there is a connection to other attacks on women in the surrounding counties over several years and it’s a prisoner in the local penitentiary that brings the connection to Will’s attention. The story revisits old characters (new to me) and old crimes (also new to me) and that is the reason I am dying to start at the beginning.

Karin’s writing is vivid and intriguing. Very descriptive. The suspense in this story leaves you on the edge of your seat. Literally.I definitely would have devoured this book in one sitting. There were enough hints to who the serial killer might be but there were also enough red herrings to make you think otherwise. A very crafty storyteller this Karin Slaughter is!

I am not going to give too much away as this is a story that needs to be relished from the very first page.

Many thanks to the @pigeonholehq, the publisher and the author for another great experience.

I definitely didn't pay attention to the fact that this is part of an ongoing story. That being said though, I thought it was decently written. I felt like there was quite a bit of story building which was both nice and dreadful all in the same motion. I feel like it could have been a shorter book but told the same story. That being said, I didn't start seeing the twist until late in the book.
