An other great book by Abbi Waxman!! This tells the story of Jessica, a single mom and high powered lawyer and her 16 year old daughter, Emily. They have joined a college tour to travel from DC to NYC with several parents and kids from exclusive LA Private schools. I especially loved this book as my daughter is about to turn 13! She rotates narrators between mom and daughter, wherein lies the beauty of the book. At times both are thinking the same thing: “I wish we were getting along better because I really need a hug”. And, more often, they are viewing things exactly the opposite: Jessica tries to give Emily space, which Emily interprets as not caring. As always, a sweet story. Fun characters make up the other parents and kids on the tour. A good reminder that perspective is everything and that most parents (however misguided) are trying to do the best for their kid(s).
I have a 16 year old daughter, and while we haven’t started college visits, the relationship between this mom and daughter mirrors ours. It’s always nice to know you’re not alone. So much so that someone wrote a book that depicts this tumultuous time in parenting quite perfectly.

I LOVED this book! I think it’s probably because I have an 11 year old daughter so I really relate to the mother/daughter relationship and how that changes as the child grows up. This is an easy and fast read and I love how the view point toggles between mother and daughter and you can see how their thoughts are sometimes aligned and they don’t know it or they are assuming the opposite of what the other is thinking. I also loved the fact that as light and fun of a story this is, there are also things that make you think...it definitely got me thinking about how I interact with my own daughter and the things I’d like to change and the things I’d like to keep!
All in all a really great read!

The exchanges between Mom and teen girl were so spot on the plot did not matter, which is probably a good thing...
