The series that made me fall in love with fantasy.
Drizzt Do’Urden has finally found a home. Together the companions rescued Regis from the clutches of a vengeful pasha. Drizzt battled his enemy Artemis Entreri into a retreat. Afterwards the led a dwarvish army against Bruenor’s ancient realm of Mithril Hall and took it again for the king. Now Bruenor sits on his throne and the biggest concern that the companions have is the wedding of Catti-Brie and Wulfgar. Things are not as peaceful as they seem. Unbeknownst to the companions an old enemy lurks below them. Drizzt’s family has not forgotten his betrayal. The chief matron of Menzoberranzen sends a war party out to capture Drizzt and put an end to this renegade.
The drow are always confident in their skills, but they underestimate the power of the companions. Bruenoer, Catti-Brie, and Wulfgar all go after Drizzt. Joining them is Thibbeldorf Pwent, a dwarf known as a gutbuster. His somewhat unique style of fighting is to wear armor that is covered with razor sharp spikes. He simply hurls himself as a living weapon at his enemies. It will take all of the cunning and skill of Drizzt and his companions to survive this encounter. Not all of them will make it.
More great sword and sorcery work from the great master himself. Salvatore’s stories are always a lot of fun. If you like good adventure style fantasy then check out this book.

Another great addition. With so much of the story focused on going through mines it really gets the feel of navigating a dungeon filled with dangers.

Wow, so I remember these books being pretty basic but this is just bad. The characters are beyond shallow and the writing is poor. I guess there's some things you just can't go back to.
Heartbreaking at the end. Wulgar died as a hero! I hope Buenor can find peace with his adopted son dead. Catie-Brie hopefully can find love later.
Great book as they all are. Love this series. Even if I found them late.

Pretty much what you can expect from a Drizzt novel.
Good: Drizzt. Guenhwyvar. Plenty of Drizzt vs. Etreri. Plenty of evil Drow stuff (including a drider). Lots of Salvatore's trademark combat scenes. Some fun twists and surprises that really redeem the novel overall.
Bad: Too much Dwarf stuff. Male characters' icky bullshit toward Catti-brie (especially egregious was Pwent slapping her on the ass while tediously overprotective-with-anything-else Wulfgar and Bruenor just stand there, wtf, I know this is an older novel but still it's gross). Not enough Guenhwyvar.

This one is mostly unremarkable due to a poorly written Catti-Brie and an unbelievably on the nose depiction of Wulfgar's possessiveness over her and how it clouds his mind and causes trouble between them. Additionally, Wulfgar's turmoil over the false motion that Catti-Brie and Drizzt kissed on his return to Mithril Hall is unsatisfying, as this kind of love triangle is out of place in a fantasy adventure story like this. I don't mean that no fantasy adventure can have a love triangle, I just mean this one is bogus. The yochlol showing up and eating Wulfgar was pretty badass though. And Bruenor's blind rage after Wulfgar's death, slicing up bad guys and taking punishment, was effective. Oh gosh though another thing that I'm glad this book puts an end to... that dang Artemis Entreri. His feud with Drizzt is so annoying. I'm glad he's dead. At least I hope he's dead.
